Sounds like a perfect match for some vets.

Consider 2 mel/plas and a flamer

since chimera firepoints only let you shoot 2 weapons up to.

Yeah, what you need next is something to put in those tanks. Vets are obviously great, but with that many chimeras, you could also consider mechanized infantry platoons.

As for what to take after that, it depends on what you took for your troops choices, sort of.

Now if I were to drop to only 2 melta/plas in the vet squads would getting a 3rd wyvern be worth the 65 points left over or would there be other decent options? As for the mechanized platoons how would you go about running them?

I'd drop the wyverns entirely. If you want AV12 that can kill infantry, just take chimeras. They can have up to two heavy flamers if you're into that.

The problem that you're having is that you have basically zero offensive power. Mechvets are a defensive weapon, and infantry platoons (especially with heavy weapons) are slow at best and immobile at worst.

All the wyverns are doing here is adding more of what you absolutely don't need - more stationary killing power focused mostly on killing infantry.

If you really must gunline, then get something with more alpha strike capability like russes. Alternately, you can put in some fast vehicles to act as a sabot for delivering your mechvets upfield, like hellhounds.

A hybrid parking lot that focuses mostly on killing light infantry isn't going to be very strong, and it's probably going to be rather boring to play against too.

Don't get plain ole cadians. This is a great opportunity to go for some rare regiments. I just started vostroyans, they're awesome. My second choice was going to be steel legion.

I agree. Cadians pain me to see....

If you really like them sure, but I highly suggest you use this opportunity to be creative and so on.

So much more expensive than Cadians though. When you need so many models, it's just not practical.

Doesnt have to be GW models. Plenty out there that are superior and cheaper.

Its all worth it in the end.

They're 6 bucks more a box. That's really not that bad and the models are gorgeous.

Indeed.

Unless you're running a mech list. Which, given that the OP just bought 6 chimeras...

The guard would never hire orks.

Praetorians and Tallarn hired Orks to fight with them in the awesome battle of Big Toof river. Blood Axes they are called I think?. Humans hire them often as scouts and so on.

Those orks tend to mimic humans in gear and so forth.

Its cool. Xenos have many uses. From beast men, to kroot, from Ork to Ab Humans.

It does not forgive them of their crimes of being Xenos, but their souls may have mercy in death if they are lucky. Not really though.

tis be true the bloodaxes would hire themselves out and then more often then not turn around and kill them off with their own weapons after all the fighting was done. BUT back on topic how would you kit out the platoons for being mechanized and as that would be freeing up quite a bit of points after moving over from vets to platoons and then taking out the wyverns.

It practically guarantees the loss of the vehicles since there's no realistic chance of getting them back intact after lending them to orks. Considering that to the Munitorum wargear is worth more than the lives of the men using it, sacrificing equipment in order to reduce human casualties is a ridiculous trade. Playing an Ork army and using converted Chimeras as looted whatever they best represent is a better fit.
