Subject: The Sons of Kravus [Homebrew] [WIP]
|
 |
Lustful Cultist of Slaanesh
|
Hello Dakkanaughts! So you might be wondering "Dagger! where did the original paragraphs here go?" I deleted them because they're now irrelevant! I still need help and constructive Criticism with the chapter, but now that the basic idea is done, I've gotten to writing and write I have! Please read about the unnamed chapter below!
*Edit/Update*
You may read the rough draft here: Note that everything is subject to change.
Origins
Why was this chapter created?
● Crusade & Counter The Sons of Kravus were created to counter Chaos forces (Namely the Emperor's Children) and expand upon the Imperium's borders.
During a warp jump on an Emperor's Children strike cruiser, the power faulted, and the jump was unable to be completed as expected. Due to the nature of the warp and it's constant flowing energies,
the cruiser was carried along for quite some time before it was finally able to re-emerge. When it did, the chapter was far into the future. The strike cruiser went to it's original destination, and found it overtaken by Chaos forces. The companies of the cruiser emptied out, and spread across the planet, soon enough defeating the chaos forces with hefty casualties, but the planet was re-taken. The imperium took notice, and investigated the survivors in the Emperor's Children, as the chapter had originally fallen to Chaos. With dear time, the chapter had formed it's own, the initial survivors of the first attack had become the captains and veterans of the chapter, and had Donned robes to hide the heraldry in their armor.
Gene-Seed
Gene-Stock purity
● Flawed The Warp has (you guessed it) altered their gene-seeds and given them deficiencies, major ones.
Codex Demeanours
● Scions of Mars The chapter maintains a close relationship to the Adeptus Mechanicus, and thus is offered more rare to efficient armors and wargear
● Uphold The Honour Of The Emperor The chapter remembers their relationship to the Emperor, and refuses to deviate away from it. They charge into battle fearlessly, making it very apparent to the enemy that the Emperor's mighty 'Angels of Death' have come.
Gene-Seed deficiencies
● Disturbing Voice The chapter exhibits strange voice modification, and thus, their voices have grown louder, making their battle cries and singing in battle ear-stinging when mixed with their helmets and weaponry. This is used as a tactic among them, as they sing and chant in battle
Chapter Flaws
● We stand Alone... Due to the Chapter's history and their progenitors, the chapter is untrusted by many and it shows, as other chapters with a strict love of the Emperor will often refuse to fight along side them.
Notable Characters
Work in Progress
Chapter Master Kravus
● Enemy of Chaos (Work in Progress)
Servant Meris Servant Meris is the Chapter Master's little bus boy, so to speak. Kravus wields two power swords, and when both are not in use, Meris is carrying one in his arms, a sword bigger than he is. He wears black robes with silver lining, and he never speaks unless Kravus wishes for conversation, so he's a quite fellow. He does as the Chapter Master says without question, and follows Kravus around unless he's in a private situation (Such as The Chapter Master discussing battle plans) or on the battle field. When the Chapter Master is in a private meeting with a captain or such, Meris is in his quarters, tinkering with salvaged tech to make small things such as a basic moving servo-arm, then dis-assembling it to save the parts for later. When he's not doing that, he is spending time observing the Techmarines until Kravus radios for him.
Squad Sergeant Micah (Dedicated to my friend Micah/Ultramarine Vet, and his assistance in making this Chapter)
● Savior of Casimare III Sergeant Micah, 2nd Company 1st Squad. On Planet Casimare III, the Imperial Guard stationed there had fallen to chaos, beginning horrible Slaaneshi Worship.
The Sons of Kravus took notice of Slaaneshi presence in their systems, and sought to crush it. They discovered Casimare III, a desert planet with outposts scattered around, most abandoned all except one Imperial station. The Space Marines deep striked around the station's borders, and fought to the inside of the station, slaughtering the Heretics inside with minimal wounded. Sergeant Micah lead his squad through the heart of the station, bolter in hand, his battle brothers following, taking up positions around the command tower to the station.
Micah breached the door with two of his battle-brothers, and entered. Micah and his two companions fired on two heretics guarding the door, and quickly went up the tower where one of Micah's companions was blasted by a mounted Lascannon, being manned by a Commissar. Micah moves out of the way, and gave a cry of courage before he moves forward, and brought the Commissar to the ground. Taking out his Bolt pistol, putting it to the Commissar's head, he cried "Face justice, Hereti-" but he was cut off, a small power fit ramming into his Side, knocking him off the Commissar. The heretical Lord stood, chuckling "Foolish Lapdog" as he stepped forward, his foot ontop of the Sergeant. He crouched down and raised his power fist, but before he could reach, Micah's hands grabbed onto the foolish Commissar's leg, breaking the bones, sending him to the ground. Micah got up as fast as he could, aimed his bolt pistol and fired a single shot into the heretic's head, leaving a blood mess behind. He stood, panted and walked over to his dying battle-brother, shot with a lascannon. He moved his battle-brother's arms, making him grab his bolter gently in his right hand, and his left hand ontop of his helmet, arm straight and on the floor. Micah stood, radio'd in that the heretical force had been neutralized, and left the command tower, now recognized as a Sergeant who's shown bravery in combat and skillful tactics, having taken down the Heretical Lord Commissar.
Techmarine Tarok (Dedicated to my friend Lord Tarkin, and his assistance in making this Chapter)
● Savior of Forgeworld Savarik V Techmarine Tarok was assigned to the 3rd company to assist in the cleansing of the Forgeworld Savarik V, which had partially fallen to the influence of Chaos and its fell powers.
After a week of fierce orbital bombardments, the 3rd company deployed to the surface, quickly seizing the primaris spaceports and vanquishing them of the Chaotic Skitarii warriors. Tarok was given 2 tactical squads and 1 devastator squad and was immediately tasked with sabotaging the enemy command nodes and in the ensuing battles, the contingent of marines were destroyed and only Tarok and 4 battle-brothers remained. In the end, Tarok successfully sabotaged all the nodes but he ended up being the lone survivor of the mission and he had lost his left hand to plasma.
Aside from Taroks misfortune, Captain Paronux had led the remains of his company in a desperate assault of the manufactorum Araos, where traitor Magos Kannus hid. Though he had slain the Magos, he himself fell in the bloody fighting and only 12 marines survived battles end.
The wounded Tarok evacuated the heaped forgeworld with only 12 brothers, though grievous casualties had been suffered, the Sons of Kravus would claim yet another world in the name of the Emperor and Holy Terra.
Homeworld
Adrius IV Is a mountainous, forest planet. The planet is littered with mountains and forests. The weather is usually cold, the people of the planet being forced to wear thicker clothing than usual to be comfortable. The planet is dotted with small villages, houses made of stone bricks and wood, thatch roofs and the such. Torches and lamps burn at night, and people walk around in clothing they make for themselves, or buy. They hunt to provide for eachother, and shops open to make this easier for those unable to hunt or craft items.
The chapter takes direct control of this planet, and the Astartes of the chapter are seen as near demi-gods, ultimate knights and warriors in robes and armor that is unfathomably strong (Ceramite). When one walks the streets of his village, the common man and woman stares in awe, and drops to their knee if they are to address them. This is not to say that the Astartes take pride in this, they believe it to be a bit too much for them. The Astartes receives among the best food when at their home villages (The quality for food differs from village to village) and often form families when at their home.
Organization
How closely does the chapter follow the Codex Astartes?
● Divergent Chapter The chapter deviates from the Codex Astartes, but not to a major degree. The chapter tends to use special units not supported by the codex, tends to prefer assault and tactical squads over vehicles (But still uses a vehicle when it is needed, they are not fools). They see the codex as rules and guidelines to take heed in, but not follow to the death, for that fails their test as Space Marines.
Combat Doctrine
● Close Combat (Veterans) "The Chapter favors assault troops and tactics to win the battle. Such Chapter may appear superficially to follow the organisational doctrines of the Codex, yet focus on close combats when it comes to delivering victory" With that said, the Chapter tends to use power weapons over plasma guns or bolters, but still has a large amount of ranged units and vehicles. The Close-Combat doctrine is typically followed mostly by veterans, who utilize power swords and special shields.
● Lightning Strike "A lightning strike is an assault carried out with such overwhelming force, from such an unexpected quarter, that no defense is possible and the enemy is smashed aside and utterly defeated. Chapters that specialize in the tactic tend to maintain highly mobile forces, eschewing heavy firepower for maneuverability" With that said, the chapter tends to find tactical points where the enemy is least defended. The chapter then storms in using plenty of different types of weapons, smashing what defense there is, charging forth and slaughtering their foes.
● Drop Pods "Some Chapters specialize in this tactic, honing to perfection so that the first and last thing an enemy sees of the Space Marines' attack are the black contrails of dozens of drop pods streaking through the air, and Battle-Brothers disembarking inside his lines to gun him down with ruthless efficiency" With that said, when the chapter is unable to find a suitable place to charge and destroy defenses, drop pods are used to deploy units directly inside of enemy lines or near them (In the event that the enemy is holding back their forces and their ground units are unable to get close, the drop pods then come into play.)
Equipment
● Modified Jump-Pack Assault units use a modified jump pack that differs from the usual. Their jump packs detonate when their users perish (This is only possible when the helmet is worn, as the helmet enables all of the life systems). Their jump-packs are also boosted, creating a bigger flame (Which can be dangerous if used in a crowd) and sends them higher and farther, at a faster rate.
● Modified Weaponry Typically, Bolters used by the chapter have an extension on the bottom that allows for multiple different types of grenades to be shot from it at the click of a button. Squad leaders are also given Kraken rounds.
● Blessed Weaponry Chaplains bless the Astartes weaponry through the use of prayer and Purity seals, each weapon typically has atleast one purity seal on it. The Astartes of the chapter believe this to be a blessing so that their bullets may hit harder, and kill faster.
● Blessings of the Forge The chapter and it's veterans have been blessed with rare gear, veterans commonly receiving Errant armor and power swords.
Current Status
Work in Progress
Livery and Heraldry, Traditions and honors
Work in Progress
● Ornamental Knives The chapter specializes in something unique from other chapters. Instead of using Combat knives in battle, they decorate them with purity seals, specially crafted and unique sheathes, blade, handle and pommel replacements, and all the such. One's combat knife is a special ornament as a space marine, and decorates their armor in battle.
● Robes The chapter originally used tough robes to hide the heraldry and ornaments of their Emperor's Children armor, but since time as passed and they have received new colors, and new armor, these robes were no longer needed, and new recruits were no longer given robes. At this time, only veterans from the original 80 or new veterans are given robes to show their dedication to the chapter.
● The musicians The chapter often employs scouts to be musicians before a battle. Typically the units deployed will gather around to hear the scouts play, while the rest of the ground units sing and chant to it, inspiring courage in one another, and bringing upon unity between brothers. Rarely, when on missions less dangerous than fighting chaos forces, such as fighting Orks (Even though they can be pretty zoggin' dangerous) a scout may be deployed to certain squads to play music in the midst of battle.
● The Song of War The chapter believes strongly in the "Song of War" as they call it. Cannons boom, guns fire, power swords clang and thunder hammers smash, it is all music to the ears of these Astartes. They sing and chant in battle all together, marching forward as they fire their guns, pushing towards the enemy fearlessly as they listen to the music they create.
Design
Work in Progress
● Chapter Master Kravus Chapter Master Kravus wears unique artificer armor, thick black robes, large pauldrons, Errant body armor and a special rarity helmet. His helmet has a flat face-piece, and his visors shine a bright crystally blue. He has a backpack, the two heads of it replaced with large silver eagle heads. He has a skull on his waist and an Iron Halo on his back, bright silver and shining. He wields two power swords and a shield, typically his robed servant holding one of his swords when not in battle, following him around and doing as he says. The Chapter Master's armor is dotted and littered with purity seals, flowing behind him softly as he steps. An Imperial laurel is embedded into his helmet, a fine gold color. On his covered chestpiece is the Imperialis, showing his extreme loyalty to the Emperor and his chapter.
● Techmarine Tarok Techmarine Tarok wears Mark 4 Maximus space marine armor. His armor is a dark red, and his visors are a bright blue. He has a black left shoulderpad and a black left kneepad, aswell as a black loincloth and black tabbard (Fitting with the Robes). He has 4 servo arms, two wielding claws, one with a flamer and another with a plasma cutter. He dons a small crest on his helmet to show his efforts in the cleansing of Savarik V. His right arm is bionic, aswell as a bionic left hand. He wields a poweraxe for Close Combat, a bolt pistol strapped to his hip and a regular bolter for ranged (equipped with the Sons of Kravus additions)
● Sergeant Micah Sergeant Micah wields basic, standard Aquila armor. He has three purity seals on his armor, and he carries a flag on his backpack. His helmet is strapped to his side for when it is needed. He has Caucasian skin and short black hair, aswell as one stud in his forehead, marking 100 or more years of service, under 200. An Iron skull marks the forehead of his helmet, showing his rank. His shoulderpads are master-crafted, and shining silver.
● Veterans Veteran marines, Sternguard or Vanguard both wield similar armor types. Usually their armor includes plenty of purity seals and decorations that most veteran Astartes wear, however unique to Veteran Sons of Kravus are their symbolic robes and hoods, that show their dedication and age with the chapter.
● Sergeants Sergeants of the chapter have a similar outfit to normal marines, except their helmets are a dark blue, with an Iron skull in their forehead. They have a long loincloth of matching color to their helmets. Veteran Sergeants are quite similar, but bear veteran decorations and such, and a black stripe over their blue helmet.
● Sergeants Normal marines of the Sons of Kravus wear black armor, their eyes shining a bright blue. Their shoulder pads are shining silver, aswell as their right knees, hands and elbow pads. Their left knee number indicates what soldier number they are in their squad, their right knee number indicates what squad they're part of, and is usually black where as their left knee is white, giving contrast to the knee color.
I am Open to ALL Criticism and ideas so long as it is all constructive and friendly!

Pulsating Possessed Chaos Marine

Daggy-Chan wrote:So I'm making a Space Marine chapter. I've seen so many unique color schemes, so many unique chapters like the Lantern Marines, and it's all getting to me. I want to make my own chapter, and I want to give it as much lore and backstory as possible.
Sad part is, I'm not sure where to start...
If I'm correct, I should start with the visuals. You know, the color scheme, armor types, unique things about them, like how Dark Angels have robes, Lantern Marines have power lanterns on their back packs, etc.
What I have so far is minimal...
I wanted their colors to revolve around black, mostly. I don't want Black and White as that's Black Templar, or anything too close to the Alfa legion or lantern marines in case I'm called a thief, etc. I wanted something to be unique about them, I really like the idea of different colored eyes from the usual green or red, but again, I dont want anything /too/ close to other custom chapters. I also wanted them to wear Errant chest pieces on their more experienced Astartes, robes, and that really cool flat helmet from the Space Marine game that was sadly not given a name. You know, the one that had the Laurel on the head and had a flat face piece and gak.
If I'm correct again, I should then move onto the weapons and wargear and such, like customized weapons and all that jazz. I wanted them to use power weapons, like power swords and thunder hammers and such, but I wanted them to give their astartes a choice. Ranged or close-combat unit. Ranged would use Combi-bolters (if I'm using this word right) which would be bolters with an extension on the bottom (Like a grenade launcher on modern-day rifles) which I'm still deciding what it will be. Close-Combat units would use mostly power swords, shields, hammers and such.
A special unit that I thought would be an interesting concept was a marine who played music. I don't exactly have it worked out how this will happen, but I thought of something along the lines of one marine in a squad using the interface in his helmet if he has one, to tune his helmet's speakers and microphone (YKnow, the things they use to speak. I'd assume theres a mic and speaker in their helmets) to emulate an instrument like a flute, and the pitch of the instrument or tune, would come from the sound of the marine's breathing and war cries.
Again if I'm correct, I should move onto the traditions and more unique parts about them. Me and my boyfriend came up with some very rough ideas. I want this chapter to revolve around music a little bit (Just incase they fall to Chaos they go to Slaanesh ) So what we came up with was mostly inspired by Lantern Marines. They would sing during battles, sing and chant together, showing off their courage and to tell the enemy they weren't afraid. Their bolters, clanks of melee weaponry, booms of cannons and such would all be referred to as their "song of war". Basically, to them, the sound of their weapons all combined would form a song to them, a song of war, courage and righteousness.
Another tradition would revolve around the Adeptus Astartes' combat knives. I thought it would be really neat if their combat knives were less of weapons and more of ornaments. They would decorate their knives, forge sheathes and blades, handles and such, and put them onto their armor kind of as decoration, or badges.
Sounds simple to make a chapter, right? It's not exactly as easy as I thought. All of these ideas are rough ideas and subject to change, but why am I posting this here of all places?
Because I want help. I want Ideas, but it's not that simple. I think it would be cool if this could be a collaborative effort of multiple people. One person would come up with an idea on this threat, and hopefully someone else would comment on it and add or subtract from it, and I would judge which ideas I like best, or merge them. Sounds fun and cool, right?
So, Dakkanaughts and Battle Brothers, what are your ideas for this chapter? What criticisms do you have? Please go easy on me, my friends! I've never done this before. I'm new to Warhammer 40k's fluff and I thought this would be a good way to get me more in touch with the fluff and lore and such.
so, what will it be, dakkanaughts?
First, you should check out this link
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Codex_Astartes#Organisational_Doctrine
If you are not familiar with 40k then lexicanum is perfect for understanding more about it.
SM chapters are comprised of 1,000 marines, who are further divided into 10 companies of 100 astartes each.
A company normally contains 6 tactical squads, 2 assault squads and two devastator squads. (Hint: might wanna peek at lexicanum and look up each of them)
About the mic or speakers you were talking about, they are called vox units and every single space marine has one incorporated into his helmet. Here is more about their armour and what cool things it has.
Auto-senses: Contained in the helmet, these systems include thought-activated communication arrays and audio filters, targeting reticules and range finders, tactical displays and auspex-links, and a host of other features.
Photolenses: Protect the Space Marine from light bursts and allow him to see in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum's as well as enable vision in low-light conditions.
Respirator Vox Grill: This thought-activated device amplifies a Marine's battlecry to deafening volumes and contains a respirator to filter out toxins and draw upon an internal oxygen supply.
Auto Responsive Shoulder Plates: Shaped to deflect and absorb incoming blows, they usually display heraldry including Chapter, Company, and Squad symbols.
Chestpiece: Designed to protect armored power cables.
Backpack Power Unit: This houses the primary power core for the armour, as well as reserve cells and an emergency solar collector.
Life Signs Monitor: Regulate a suite of life support functions, including an injection system that can regulate painkillers, anti-toxins, and combat stimulants.
Nutrient Reservoir: A self-replenishing high-energy food store that can sustain a Space Marine's metabolism. Thus during battle, there is no need for a Space Marine to eat or drink.
Reinforced Greaves: These incorporate gyroscopic stabilizers and power units that can magnetize the soles of the armour's boots, allowing Space Marines to walk on metal surfaces in the void of space or zero gravity environments.
Imma post this real quick and append another text dedicated to your custom chapter

I was thinking, like a few custom chapters I've heard about, they wouldn't necessarily go by the "1000 astartes only" rule, but I wouldn't know if this would be possible or not. I know each chapter has it's own rules and such.

So, chapter traditions and culture may vary, but it is definitely the funnest thing to think of for your chapter. If you give me ideas, I can give you colour schemes based off those specific traditions.
For example, your chapter may have a tradition of over-indulging in the actions of devouring the brains of their enemies and gaining their memories. Added to this, it might be the culture of each new Chapter master to eat the brain of the previous so that he may gain his knowledge (A SM can litterally eat your brain and gain your memories). In this case, the picture below may fit their description as it depicts the blood on their faces, hands and arms after messily eating brain tissue.

Oh good lord. That's not very polite, eating someone's brain! The brain is meant for bullets, not teef!
Jokes aside, I don't think I'd want my chapter to revolve around blood or devouring enemies, I want to look at my chapter and respect them. I respect the Salamanders because they're home-bodies, they get to visit their families and such when off-duty and act as village elders and such. Now thats a respectable chapter!

Yes, I apologize. The chapters I explained were called 'codex chapters.' These chapters have simple and strict rules but to add, not to many chapters follow the codex in every single way. There are chapters like the Space Wolves that dont give a gak about the codex and surpass the number of marines allowed

This chapter would follow the codex with discretion, but would not be afraid to question it in times of need or caution.

Aye, you did say you want your chapter to revolve around some music so let me do some research right quick
You're being really friendly! I don't know about you, but almost every forum I've been to has been full of angst and such
Yeah, a lot of people get over-emotional about things but it's alright, I was like that when I first came on here but I learned how to properly debate with people.
So how many marines will your chapter have? I think I have an idea

I meant angsty about everything XD Simply coming up with an idea gets a ton of mixed and mostly negative responses, nothing was really friendly or welcoming.
As for the number of marines, (Most likely) somewhere around the 1300-1700 mark, I haven't decided for sure.

Haha, that is unfortunately true. You cant really ask a question without being chewed out for the dumbest reason. No matter, there are still some awesome people like you and I among others
So I think I got a good idea. The name I came up with for you is the Magna Legion. 'Magna' translates to 'loud' in latin. The logo for the chapter could be a harp, signifying their love for music. And since the common harp contains 34 strings, the chapter includes 34 companies of marines, coming to 3,400 marines (if you want, I can find a way to lower that number).
Your marines could think of music as a holy occupation in cleansing the enemies of mankind. Your marines march into battle blasting ancient musical tunes while they charge headlong into combat like silent mythical giants of retribution.
Depending on what you think so far, I have a lot more history of how your chapter came about and so forth.

Between 1300-1700 is quite a lot - a standard, Codex following Chapter would have a 1000.
For now, I'd go with a thousand marines - you can always change that, but most Chapters only have a thousand combat-ready Space Marines. A lot of people making their own Chapter make the mistake of making their chapter larger to be more unique, while inall fairness it isn't, really, because so many people do it.
The only exception to this I'd go for is if they're Dark Angel successors - their Deathwing and Ravenwing have unspecified numbers, but then you'd have the whole Fallen business which won't really help making them nice guys!
The most important things, I think, you should start with are:
-What Chapter are they successors of? Ultramarines (most likely case), Imperial Fists, Raven Guard.. and so forth.
-Is the Chapter fleet based, or do they have a homeworld? If so, what is their homeworld like?
-Are there any geneseed mutations? Ie, do they miss a certain organ or do they have any sort of 'problems' hidden in their geneseed?
-What is their prefered fighting method?

This is great! but I dont want to make any decisions right off the bat, the way I like to do things revolves around options. I like multiple options that I may pick from, or merge together, which is why I started this thread, ha!
But I do think 3,400 marines is a tad bit excessive

They ARE Successors of Dark Angels. I wanted something to explain their robes, and I love the Dark Angels.
They have a homeworld, a mountainous yet forest planet with mostly ye ole villages that can get a grasp on technology, but there's always that one outpost or church that has been blessed with better technology and such.
And, for geneseed, I havent decided.

Awesome, well I'll come back when some more folks have responded and there's more ideas being revealed. So far, I will do some stuff and see if I can murge a dark angel successor chapter to music somehow.
Perhaps, your chapter interrogates the fallen while blaring mystical harp notes, charming the prisoner and forcing him through the truth.
After all, harps and angels go well together!

Doesn't HAVE to be Dark Angels, I just wanted somethin to explain the robes a bit better.
But on the note of how to merge them, the Primarch or chapter master could have simply had a love for music from his homeworld which I have yet to name.

Do provide more lore. Is it possible for two different... maybe, survivor groups from two different chapters/legions to merge together to form a new chapter on the planet they found eachother on? Or am I speaking nonsense?
Also I know nothing about how dates work in Warhammer 40k

Well, since they're Dark Angel descended, I'd still say that, to the outside world, they are a thousand strong. Ten companies, two of which have undefined numbers. I've got Dark Angel successors, too, and I've done the same as the DA do - act like you follow the codex while you really don't
I like the idea of using music in their interrogation. Clockwork Orange-ish? They could of course also just deliver the Fallen they captute to the Rock.
Keep in mind that they don't hav to be DA to wear those robes - you can easily explain it with something else.

Okay, here's an idea.
The surviving emperors children threw away their name and colors (in anger that their legion turned to chaos) and formed a new group of astartes (soon to become a codex chapter) resembling their love for music.

It's possible, in theory. Should be a closely guarded secret, however, as the Imperium would at the very least frown upon their... lineage.
40K dates work as following: in M41.789, you're looking at year 789 of the 41st Millenium (M41), so M41.789=the year 40.789.

Okay, here's an idea.
The surviving emperors children threw away their name and colors (in anger that their legion turned to chaos) and formed a new group of astartes (soon to become a codex chapter) resembling their love for music.
This is simple yet good. I like it, but I have no clue how founding a chapter works, as in, I don't know how they would be recognized as a real chapter. Typically, from my understanding, the Emperor's Children space marines would either require extensive testing to prove they really are loyal, or they would still be declared heretics because the rest of their chapter fell to Chaos.
Someone needs to explain the founding of chapters to me, lol

Well otherwise, it seems like copying to just take the Dark Angels robes without them being connected.

Not really, as there's plenty of reasons a chapter could have veterans and the like wear robes. There's some fan-made chapters out there that do it
Founding a chapter is a varrying process. Usually, the geneseed of an existing chapter is put in some flesh drones who make more of it in their organs. Those drones are harvested, and the process begins again... until there' enough for a chapter.
One moment, I might have an idea on how you could make EC work..

In the surviving EC case, they would be sent to terra to be psychically analyzed by the Grey Knights. When found pure, their gene-seed would be copied and stored on terra (assuming the EC survivors were able to convince the Imperium to allow them to form a chapter to avenge their honor, instead of becoming GK). Then they would either be given a planet to call home or become a fleet based astartes chapter. Then they would simply begin the recruiting process as thenoobbomb explained.

So, let's say you're rolling with loyalist Emperor's Children.
Before the Horus Heresy, a company of the Emperor's Children went missing, lost in the Warp. It was but until the 37th Millenium that they reappeared, finally emerging from the Warp. They soon found out about the treachery of Horus and, to their shock, their own Legion.
Seeing how the Imperium was now, they saw that they were not safe. They changed their name and their colors, posing as the remnants of an almost destroyed chapter (of their own invention, naturally) - given the bureaucracy in the Imperium, nobody could check if they really were, and the Chapter was given a new world to call their home, and recruit from. Since then, the Emperor's Children truly became a Loyal Chapter of the Imperium, and in the centuries that followed they were both a Chapter in size and appearance, with newer suits of power armor and other, more modern equipment. While they no longer know of their geneseed'sl lineage, there is one thing of the Emperor's Children that remains within the chapter: their passion for music.
Something along those lines could work.

While they no longer know of their geneseed' sl lineage, there is one thing of the Emperor's Children that remains within the chapter: their passion for music.
Something along those lines could work.
Not bad, not bad at all.
