There are elements of the original that JMS was never happy with as he felt he could do better, so no doubt that is playing into the desire to reboot the series. Personally I dont really mind, I truly truly loved the original (I regard it as superior to all other popular sci fi settings and far more underappreciated), and while I initiqlly hated the BSG remake I came to love it... right up until the last 2-3 episodes (although truthfully the last season as a whole dragged a bit)

Slightly OT but in keeping with the discussion I think. When looking back at old Sc Fi shows people will often mention how dated the tech is, myself included, but I wonder if that really is the case? The other day I was reflecting on this after watching some old Sc Fi show. The equipment was made up of knobs, buttons, dials and sliders and I was comparing it to our nice new flash smart touch screen devices and how cool they look... The thing is they do look cool, but actually how practical are they in a real working environment? Just think how frustrating they can be when trying to access something in a hurry, the knobs & dials suddenly didn't seem so dated any more. They had a job to do and they did it. A button labelled "open doors" did just that, no hunting around for it.

The only way I could see modern tech working in the same way would be for there to be dedicated touch screen work stations that did that one job, but wouldn't that then defeat the object of going hi tech? Will the future still see the use of low tech in mission critical situations?

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

One of the inevitable things about sci-fi is that no matter how far into the future it is set, it's always a product of the time it's written/made.

Weep for the future, Na'Toth. Weep for us all.

Not actually that negative about this, but the great, great thing about B5 (apart from many of the cast) is the story of how a small band of humans and aliens (all alone in the night) defeated the Old Ones and sent them packing, and given that's been told, more stories in the same universe may well be, well, Legend of the Rangers. I did quite like Crusade however.

So im a little confused (again), Im reading this as "they are going to redo Babylon 5, same story and characters, different actors, scenery, effects, etc." others seem to think its going to be the same setting but a different story entirely... so which one is it?

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

I got into B5 when it was on, and my group had it to talk about when we got back from uni. White Stars, Rangers, Technomages, it all got talked about.

But, I saw an episode the other day, and couldn't help but cringe. It was the 'B4 returns' one, with Zathras.
I watched all of 10 minutes.
