Subject: [2000pts.] - ODST Scions (Unbound) *Updated 8/17/14*

Hello everyone, several months ago I posted the idea of potentially running an ODST themed army using the new Scions and the introduction of unbound armies I have found a way to run this army the way it was intended! Thanks to the Space Wolf Codex stating their Drop Pods are "Fast Attack" choices and not "Dedicated Transports" The fluff behind this would be an elite regiment of Scions that specialize in orbital and high altitude drops to spearhead planetary assaults, as a QRF (quick reaction force) and to conduct operations behind enemy lines. This is my first attempt at putting this list together so please feel free to critique. Thanks for posting!
HQ:
Captain Drecta (*Lord Commissar*)
*w/ Carapace Armor, Bolter, Melta Bombs
-Scion Specialist Team (Scion Command Squad)
*w/ x4 Melta Guns
-Drop Pod

TOTAL ARMY: 2000 POINTS
Model & Weapon Count:
-x11 Drop Pods
-x81 Scions
-x8 Plasma Guns
-x16 Melta Guns
-x10 Hot Shot Volley Guns
Tactics:
-I have x5 "Specialist" Squads of Scions to give orders and to provide support fire with their Melta and Plasma Guns giving me a terrifying amount of Alpha Strike potential with their x4 Special Weapons each and access to orders. Fluff is these guys train relentlessly to master every special weapon and their Sergeants are keen veterans who understand the best situation to use them.
-x5 Squads of x10 men with x2 Hot Shot Volley Guns. Gave these squads of x10 since it will give me some much needed bodies and the Volley Guns fit in well with the standard Hot Shot Lasgun squads in terms of target priority. Also with this amount of AP3 in the army it gives me good counter to the multitudes of strong Marine lists in my local community.

Does the rule of having 50% of your army on table turn 1 apply here?

Unless you're deamons I'm pretty sure that applies. Also I understand that space wolves can take drop pods as dedicated transports but I don't see how that applies to your army.
Other than that though a very solid list. I love drop pod armies as they let you have amazing alpha strike capabilities(or beta strike as I don't know how you're going to get these in turn 1).
You also have a good mix of special weapons and specific roles for each squad to preform. All and all well done assuming it's legal.

While I don't know the specifics of the space wolves drop pod rules, I wanted to do something similar but nixed it due to the 'sudden death rule' - that and you cannot roll on turn one for entering from reserves.
Unless, of course, the SW have a rule saying you can in which case someone please correct me.

Don't understand where the rules debate is coming in? Space Wolf Drop Pods are Fast Attack slots not dedicated transports meaning other battle brother units can deploy in them. Other then that they are EXACTLY like every other Drop Pod

Seems simple and basic.
Yep SW pods are FA so meh.
I would honestly take nothing but command squads
They are more expensive but those orders or kickin.
Max out some cool special weapons and get rending or PE on them for lulz.

You can still get 13 pods in going with desubots idea. Just go for HSVGs and meltas for the command squads. You can afford 11 of these and then two squads of scions with 3 (10pt) specials between them. Giving 13pods. Gives 13 orders and 45 HSVGs/meltas. 10 scions less. Automatically Appended Next Post: You could fiddle around and change say 6 squads to have 3 squads with plasma and 3 squads with flamers.
Giving 12 plasma, 12 flamers and 21 HSVG/melta.

That is a pretty nasty idea and I do like it! How would I be able to go about it in the fluff perhaps? Also I like the idea but wouldn't the lack of bodies really hurt the overall goal? Squads of x5 Stormtroopers wont be very hard to kill.

Personally I think you should only take x6 command squads an run them as "special weapons teams" only with Melta and Plasma and have a Lord Commissar be your commander to make sense fluff wise. Then take the rest as x10 man Squads with Hot Shot Volley Guns to give you some more bodies (playing a Drop Pod army I have fond the more bodies the better) and the Volley Guns coincide well with the Hot Shot Lasguns.

Fluff wise, you're talking about the ODST. their commanders don't deploy on the ground but talk to them in their HUD. I don't own the Guard codex, but if they can issue their commands to themselves then its all explained. If not... uh... they're talking to each other?

They did have some rank on the ground issuing orders from the ODST game, remember this is not exactly supposed to be ODST but a Scion Regiment themed after them as much as possible. In this Regiment our leaders lead from the front

I didn't think you could start the game in a battle brothers transport? I thought you had to board it turn 1?

the 50% rule doesnt apply any more... but if you dont have any models on the board at the end of your turn you lose...

I really like the idea with this force could be great fun to play with and full of character.
Just wondering if it would be worth using imperial guard instead of MT as you're paying for the deep strike skill that's not going to be used, in return you gain a bit more versatility to how you kits up, you can add carapace and come out cheaper or camo gear for a little more survivability, plus for a force relying on reserves officer of the fleet would be handy. Not sure which army has better orders but you gain 2 orders per command squad with the guard, so could mix them evenly with veterans or scions and have every squad using orders each turn. Not sure which would be better between veterans or scions, veterans get a extra special weapon scions get hot shot.
Not sure if its points efficient but it might be interesting to throw some inquisitors into the mix too, the leadership a stubborn helping squads stand their ground, possibly psychic buffs though they don't seem to be as reliable this time round and maybe even tanking small arms fire if in termy armour. Psy-cannon totting termis would make cool heavy weapons troopers (or Spartans ;P )
By the way not really used unbound so not sure exactly how it works. Does it apply to just detachments that don't follow the force org, or is it army wide including detachments that do follow force org? Ie. can you be a cheeky git and take CAD scions for objective secure with just an unbound space wolves force for the drop pods? I have the feeling that this is not the case but would like to check.

As far as I can tell the way "Unbound" means you can take literally anything you want in your collection as long as you abide by the rules for the models/units you are taking. And thanks, Its not a bad idea and its why I have both the Astra Millitarium Book and Militarium Tempestus book to mix and match if I ever decide to change it up. Will still be using the Scion models however as they are armored up enough and have a bit of an ODST look.
I HAVE ALSO UPDATED THE LIST SO TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!
