Subject: America's fine sense of Justice. Steubenville Rapist's back on the team!
Ma'Lik Richmond, one of two teens convicted in the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, is back on the roster of the Steubenville Big Red football team.
Richmond was found delinquent of raping a 16-year-old girl in March 2013, and must register as a Tier II sex offender every 180 days for 20 years.
Richmond was released from an Ohio Juvenile Detention Center on January 6, 2014, and in June of this year, the 7th District Court of Appeals upheld his sexual offender classification.

Richmond and his attorney had originally fought to have that sex offender classification dropped, but the Court of Appeals felt otherwise.
Judge Thomas Lipps had ruled earlier that his sentence was to be contingent on behavior and rehabilitation while serving. Trent Mays, also convicted in the case, must also register as a Tier II sex offender upon his release.
Like murdering dogs, drugs trafficking, hiring men to murder your pregnant ex, killing children whilst drunk driving and any other number of crimes for which other people must endure the social repercussions for many years to come, football washes away all sins, including the drugging and raping of a minor.
Come back on the team, potentially earn millions of dollars, because you can be the filthiest piece of gak on earth, but if you can run whilst holding a pigskin oblong, we wish to adulate you, regardless of what you'd like to do to our child if left alone in a room with them.

Expected. Did people forget how the town reacted to this?
(it was in sympathy to the real victims, the two boys)

I think the real issue is why he is out of jail in the first place.
But hey, football is important!

It doesn't greatly surprise me. There's an obsession about football that some believe places it beyond all else. I recall people at the time criticising the girl because of the damage that could be done to the team. An incredibly skewed sense of priorities.

Meanwhile, in college, football player gets a free textbook from a booster and the media flips. ESPN devotes a half-hour investigative special and the NCAA wants to nullify all wins by the team for the last 100 years.
Meanwhile, in the NFL, beat your wife unconscious in an elevator and get a two game suspension. Smoke some weed and get suspended for a year.
I'm beginning to think people involved in sports at all levels are idiots.

I enjoy football for what it is, a few hours of entertaiment. It's the same as watching a movie or playing a game of 40K. Unfortunately, incidents like this show that way too many people take this game way too seriously. When people get to passionate about sports is all I hear is Al Bundy talking about his playing days.
