After i assembled painted and played a few games with my chaos army i thought. What else am i missing? I currently
have the dark vengence chaos army and i need advice where to go from here. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Troops are never a good choice, many people say add a land raider. I will link this to my buddy, he plays csm.

The best choice is what you want to paint and play, you need to have fun with it, find something you love, in my armies I love bikes, commissars, and stealth suits. I love playing and painting these units. I know that stealth suits and Ravenwing are not top teir choices but they are fun for me to play. You need to take a look at all the CSM models and say: what do I want to paint and play?

I choose stuff more for rules as I want to like how it plays and feels on the table. Find what you look for.

Even though troops arnt the best choice I would still buy the refular CSM models because you have to go from there to get cult models unless you want the death guard look instead of converted CSM models. What type of army do you want to play? Psyker heavy? Troop heavy? Flier heavy? Vehicle heavy?

Im probably going to have a lot of troops because of im building off of narritive but i want to also be competitive.
And i loove raptors and havocs and im probebly gonna want a khorne deamon prince

You're playing a chaos space marine army without chaos space marines. That's the first thing I'd fix. Of course, you can run other kinds of power-armored troops as well by borrowing them from the elites section with certain lords, but still, you're running a power armor army without any power armor models, or solid superscoring units. I'd get on that first.

You CAN convert them, but given that they're snap-togethers, this will be a lot harder than it looks. You could maybe get some spikey bitz from the internet, but... honestly, you're going to be better off just getting new stuff, either retail or second-hand from ebay.

As for demon prince vs. rhino, a single rhino is pretty crummy. I'd only go for a rhino if you intend on fielding a lot of them, especially in the context of a mechanized list in general. Meanwhile, a demon prince can be shoehorned into practically any list.

It's not the strongest HQ choice, but if you like it, then I'd go that route.

I'll probebly still run Krannon as my HQ and have my demon prince and cultists soak up the shots till Draznect and his chosen can get into CC. I also have a champion with a force ax to do some damage.

Well, soaking up shots isn't what demon princes are really meant for. DPs exist to have a unit that's as beaty as a lord, but is also able to pass out buffs like a sorcerer. They're damage and synergy units, much moreso than damage sponges (their relatively few wounds and low toughness for a monstrous creature is ill-suited to the task).

If you want something to take a beating, then, once again, I'd recommend CSM. 13 points is very cheap for something with 4's in its statline and a 3+ armor save. You can take a pretty big pile of them at that price.

Also, I forgot to mention this before, if all you have is dark vengeance, then I'd recommend sooner than later getting yourself a copy of the CSM codex by one way or another.

So what kind of monsterous demons are out there?? And do you know a where to get a codex and not drop 40 couple bucks?

eBay sells used codices sometimes. Either as straight discount stores or if you can pick one up cheap from a less-viewed auction.

Anyways, if you want a big, beaty demon of doom, I'd take a look at the chaos demons codex and ally one of their HQ units in. What you're looking for is greater demons, not demon princes. Demon princes are really more bigger, immortal chaos space marines than anything else.

Bloodthirsters are still good but they took a hit with the changes to swooping i personally like the slaanesh lash prince because he can do the same damage as a bloodthirster especially if you give his weapon instant death from rewards

it depends on the theme you wanna go with. a blood thruster and some blood letters make for a nice fluffy khonre CSM ally force.

Yeah, my thing about them is that if he is the center part of your army, as in he is going to do all the heavy lifting, then all the opponent has to do is take him out (which is easy) and then it's hard for you to win. It's still possibleto have him but you have to adjust your army for it

Problem is that the chaos space marines are just inferior troop choices compared to other codices.

Cultists are by far the better option pointswise and they won't be doing all that much except for holding objectives.

Cult troops (Thousand sons, Plague marine, Khorne berzekers, Noise marines), are your to-go infantry units. And out of those only 1 is actually competitive, being plague marines.

Thousand sons are too niche and expensive. Now if their sorcerer could take a power that isn't Tzeentch, you'd have a very solid unit.
Khorn berserkers are just outclassed by standard khorn mark marines in terms of point-effectivenes.
Noise marines, are decent but there are better options.

If you're like me, you'll run into a mobility wall. CSM have limited options for mobility. Rhinos and basic Land Raiders for transports, and deep strike on a handful of units which really need some icons t. You could potentially go for a locked in Master of Deception with Huron (or Ahriman, though likely not fluffy for you). If you want drop pods, unfortunately you'll have to look at Forgeworld stuff, and that's a whole other can of worms.

What would I suggest? Try getting some units to threaten long range. Heldrakes, bikers and spawn are all highly mobile and can cover some serious ground to blitz with. There are a number of long range weapons that can be
brought to bear by Havocs and/or Obliterators.

Cultists/zombies are not a bad choice for troops. They do what they do: cheap wounds. They tarpit and hold objectives fairly well. I generally don't bother with marks as I'd rather buy more cultists with the points.

If you're looking at armor, be sure to saturate. You'll want to run multiple vehicles to make it harder for your opponent to choose what to knock out. A couple of Rhinos for cult troops isn't a bad idea, as they have a top side firing point allowing two models to fire. If you plan on berserkers, a Land Raider may be a decent choice for the assault rule.

Cult troops are a bit tricky. Khorne Berserkers and Thousand Sons are really situational. I've never really found a great slot for them in my lists. Plague marines are tough as nails and can carry multiple special weapons even in a small formation. Noise Marines are scary as hell for mass of fire and ignores cover. All of them carry a hefty price but can still be troops with a corresponding lord/sorc.

First, buy a 10-man box of Chaos Marines, a box of Chaos Spawn, a pair of clippers, some glue, and a good X-Acto knife. Take your DV models. Chop off any lightning claws, powerfists, and plasma pistols. Replace with chainswords and boltguns from the chaos marine box. You have now drastically improved your DV guys.

Now, take your Dark Angel marines. Shave off any offending goodguy symbols. Replace with spikes and skulls from the chaos marine box, and mutation bits from the Spawn box. You have now doubled your model count.

Do the same for your DV bikers, but also chop off arms and replace with similar bits from the chaos marine and spawn boxes. You now have 3 Chaos Bikers. Bling one of them out with your best chaos marine and spawn bits, and stick the biggest axe on the sprues in his hand.

Now assemble your 10-man box of marines and spawn. Liberally sprinkle spawn bits amongst the marines. At this point you should have 20 regular chaos marines, 6 blinged out marines, a lord, 3 bikers with one switchable to biker lord, 2 spawn, a helbrute, and 20 cultists.

At this point you may feel comfortable enough to chop up that DV librarian into a Sorcerer. Him and the terminators might be a little daunting to chaos up though, they're dripping with that dark angel iconography. If you can manage it though, you'll have a perfectly serviceable army that you can swap around to try out different tactics.

Beyond that rhinos are a pretty useful investment. However, get chaos predators instead. They come with all the same bits to make rhinos, but have extra stuff for the Predator turrets and can be swapped out pretty easily if you wanna go mech or transport.

I have your starting army right here buddy. I have all the cult marines, special and heavy weapons, tanks and daemon prince and 20 blood letters, and the paint!
