Some nice folks on Reddit introduced me to your forums and I figured I'd ask for some expert advice. My friends have been playing at our friendly local gaming store for some time now and have finally convinced me to jump into the fray. After some extensive deliberation, we decided the army that fit my goofy, brute force play style would be orks. Plus I got a kick out of screaming WAAAGH and talking like a soccer hooligan!!!!! So with all that aside, I've acquired quite a bit of figures off eBay and from friends, and I have not Idea how to make an effective army. This is where I need help. Currently I have.

3 Defkopta
153 Boyz
15 Nobz
1 Warboss
6 Nobz in Mega Armor
80 Gretchen
1 Mek with a Shokk Attack Gun
1 Ghazghkull Thraka - which they tell me I can't use in this league being a lord of war
1 Painboy with Orderly
3 Old school Zzap guns
5 Trukks
3 Warbikes
1 custom Dakka Jet
5 Burna/Lootas

The league they play in is 1500 points, has something about objective points, and I'm not sure where to begin. Any help or advice that anyone can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm lost in a green tide and I'm not 100% sure how to get out.

3 mobs of 30 boyz, each with a nob with bosspole, and a painboy attached for your main fighting force

3 mobs of 10 gretchin, for securing objectives

Deffkoptas for sneaking behind enemy lines and murdering something impotant with TL Rokkit launchas

3 mega armored Nobz in truck, for killin ded ard stuff

Dakkajet, because it's cool

I know you only have one Painboy model, and the official model is hideous, so I suggest you covert a couple of the Nobz to painboyz,

Always try and use Deffkoptas to get outflanking anti-tank and fast objective jumping units

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).
Keep on rolling

Boyz and boyz in trukks, als every boyz squad should have a PK BP Nob. Also mega warboss with lucky stick is the best, toss him in a battle wagon with a bunch of boyz and have fun. Orks are a fantastic army to play and always tons of fun!!!!! Enjoy em!!!!!

40k Orks 12000 points and growing
Ultramarines 2500
Salamanders 3500
Necrons 4000
Skitarii/cult mech 2500

If you do not have them already, I would recommend purchasing the basic rulebook and the arc codex for starters.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

Know what the rules for the league are? Can you use formations?

@SYKOJAKMade
I've got the codex and A friend gave me this little rule book from his Stormclaw box.

@EricBasser
The only things I know right off are that there are no lords of war, you have to roll for 6 objectives around the board, and 1500 point max. As far as formations go, they said something about no unbound I think.. TBH my brain was fried from trying to intake all the rules and phases of a normal game, so I apologize for the lack of specifics.

@adamsouzaMade
That sounds like a fun list! Been doing some research on those MANz and I can't wait to throw them in the fray. Someone made mention to me that I could get Ghaz out if I call him a warboss in mega armor or something like that. Because lets face it, he looks like a bad ass and should be shown off to the world. But back to the list I've got a few questions.
Sluggas or Shootas?
Should I spring for a Big Mek with KFF for the MANz squad or da boyz?
If I bring Ghaz out as a Mega Armor Warboss, should I give him da lucky stikk to give him that look out sir thing?

Thanks to all of you for this amazing feedback so far. I can definitely tell I'll be enjoying these forums.

There are two ways to run a warboss that work well. One is to stick him in mega armour and give him the lucky stikk, and then put him in a mob of Nobz or meganobz. The rerolls on the 2+ save make him nearly invincible, and you can "look out, sir!" and ap2 hits that would negate his armour save. The other is to give him da finkin' cap, and roll all your warlord traits on the strategic table and try to get "infiltrate 3 units". This works incredibly well with big mobs of boyz or bikes. But all the strategic traits are good and you'll get two of them, which is potentially huge.

You can also put the warboss on a bike in a unit of biker nobz, but the models can be expensive/a pain to convert. If you give him mega armour he can't run and neither can any unit he joins, so he'll need a wagon of some sort.

Meganobz are an excellent distraction unit, since they're usually too dangerous to ignore but so hard to kill that they draw a lot of firepower away from your main army. Put them in a trukk, point them at something valuable, and watch the fun times begin.

I'd say that 5 burna/loota boyz and 3 bikes aren't enough for an effective unit, and the zzap guns are a bit unreliable for a league. As a general rule, Orks do badly if you try to run them as a "jack of all trades" army, and do well if run in large, redundant units (ie, lots of the same thing).

With your models, I'd suggest a list along these lines (haven't added the points up exactly but it's about 1500):

Warboss - mega armour, lucky stikk
Painboy

3 Meganobz - trukk
3 Meganobz - trukk
6 Nobz - 'eavy armour, 1 power klaw, trukk

30 Shoota boyz - nob, bosspole
30 Shoota boyz - nob, bosspole
30 Slugga boyz - nob, bosspole
10 grotz - squighound

Dakkajet - Extra supa-shoota, flyboss
Deffkopta - TL rokkits
Deffkopta - TL rokkits

Stick the warboss and painboy with the Nobz and run them and the meganobz up a flank. Kill everything.

Blood rains down from an angry sky, my WAAAGH! rages on, my WAAAGH! rages on!

Unbound armies ignore the FOC chart, so they are a sometimes kind of thing, and not really suited to league play.

Using Gaz as your Warlord model is a great way to make sure it does more than collect dust. It's a great looking and would be a shame not to field it.

I don't personally use trunks, since they can't hold 30 boys.

Slugga boys are cheaper and are better at hand to hand.

Shoota boyz have greater range and lob buckets of dice.

KFF requires a big Mek and is only useful against shooting.

Someone was trying to convince me that the Shootas were a win all solution because being Assault 2, they would give me more shots in my shooting phase and still give me an extra attacks like the pistol in the assault phase.

The Ork supplement has a formation where you take 10 units of boyz and a Warboss. They form one unit. Depending on the Warboss, 10x 10 Boyz with a Nob and Power Klaw is 950 points. Add in a Warboss for another 100+ points. Then take a CAD (Normal FoC) of a Painboy and 2 units of 10 Gretchin, and you should have about 325 points to spend. You have 2 Objective secured units, one that has 10 Power Kalw Nobz and Warboss with 90 extra wounds. They all have Feel No Pain.

Don't catalogue the points for each entry. Just say the upgrades and the points for the whole thing not individually. It will get Dakka in trouble if you do.

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).
