This setup is confusing me - you can't take a pair of lightning claws and a combi-melta - the claws replace both their combi-bolter and power weapon, leaving nothing for the combi-melta to be exchanged with. So this should save you some points (remembering that the champion chooses from a different list with different costs). The rest of the force either moves fast (maulerfiends, heldrake, daemon), deep strikes (terminators) or is cannon fodder (cultists) - I don't think he'll do much, especially with the short-ranged weaponry loadout. Is the Helcult dataslate something you'd think about?

I kinda just fit him in there because I had the extra points. So I can either go with the Helcult formation or replace him with something else? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also got this list if it's better?

Now mind you I haven't bought all the models here. Only have 40 cultists, Be'lakor/Daemon Prince, two Mauler/Forgefiends and 3 DV Helbrutes so I can go in other directions.

I don't have access to the dataslate, so I'm not sure how good it is, but I think part of it allows deep-striking Helbrutes, but I think the downside is that you'd need to take some more cultists for the formation. I'd probably drop him for something else.
With the terminators, I'd have left each with a combi-melta and a single lightning claw / chainfist, but it's up to you, I'd rather have the melta shot than an extra attack. If you do decide to stick with dual claws, think about giving the champion a claw and a powerfist - they're both Specialist, so you're still getting the extra attack, so it's 5 points for extra versatility.
{Edit}
The second list looks much more, um, boring (sorry! personal opinion, please feel free to ignore!), what psychic disciplines were you planning for each list?

What other units do you have to fill the spare points?
The units I have now are the DV Lord, DV chosen (dunno if I'll get too much use out of them), 40 Cultists, 3 Helbrutes, 10 man squad of CSMs, Rhino, Warpsmith and 2 Mauler/forgefiends. Everything else I'll still need to purchase.

There is a slight problem. You can't take an allied detatchmemt of the same faction as the primary detachment (unless specific tournament is allowing it like the bao) so would would need to take a second troop to make the second detachment a proper cad.
Given you already have a load of cultists this shouldn't be a problem.
The rest looks sound. Would give the sorceror some wargear

Agreed, your allied detachment needs to be either Crimson Slaughter or Black Legion. Automatically Appended Next Post: Taking 3 heldrakes and nurgle oblits may give you problems finding an opponent

Personally not a fan of lasher tendrils. The maulerfiend has limited close combat attacks and will go down fast against anything armed with melta/haywire grenades (wych squads for example make a mess of them).
Personally I run my maulerfiends with the magma cutters - that way any vehicle they connect with will go down incredibly quickly. I would recommend keeping them geared towards a specific job and target vehicles/fortifications. Use the Heldrakes for eliminating infantry

Lashers are however great against knights, which will otherwise tear apart a maulerfiend

When I read the allies rules it said that "the detachment must have the same faction (or no faction) or have a different faction (or no faction)".
This confuses me. Automatically Appended Next Post: changerofways wrote:Captyn_Bob wrote:There is a slight problem. Don't worry, the players around my area are power gamers through and through. That's why I'm struggling to make a list and still use the units I like while remaining at least semi-competitive.

It's two separate restrictions:
- Every unit in the allied detachment must have the same faction as each other unit in that allied detachment (or have no faction);
- But that faction must be different to the faction of your primary detachment.
So (for example) an Eldar allied detachment can only be made of Eldar units or units that have no faction, and you cannot have Eldar as your primary detachment. ( I'll admit, I'd missed this when first looking at your army).
