Hi, i'm placing an order soon for paints and am wondering what will give me a nice effect, I seem to only find the necron compund and white drybrush examples. Which would be better for colouring the trim on dark eldar, layer paints or dry brushing them? From what I have seen dry brushing gives the models such an amazing effect, but the layers wouldn't "blend" as well it would seem. My paints i'm getting are
Xereus Purple - layer
Druchii Violet - shade
Lucius Lilac -Dry
Black primer

Personally, I'd go with the layer paint on the edges of the armour plates, then wash the whole thing to give a purple tinge. I'd avoid dry brushing, it can look messy unless you get it just right.

Yeah im pretty bad at painting right now, but drybrushing looks super easy, but i can see how it can get messed up.
With the wash, will washing the entire thing after layer give it a look like this: http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h438/HadrielCaine/Dark%20Eldar/DSC02687.jpg ?

Definitely layer drybrushing would look to messy on models that need sharp edge definition

What would the purple drybrush even be used for? Necron compound for metals, the white one for bones...

You can't get the edging effect on DE armor with dry brushing without some secret brush-fu. I have done it with a hard edge highlight, using a light purple. You get a little bit on a thin round brush and run the side of the brush over the edge. I used the druchii violet as a wash for my raider to blend the highlights. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also for the record, necron and dark eldar are about as far apart on the painting difficulty spectrum as you can get. Trying to learn from necron tutorials will make your life really hard.
