So I got to try out some Infinity at one of the GenCon learn to play events, I let the other guy have nomads (of which I have nearly 20) cause he wanted them and instead of playing the army I've been collecting I nabbed the combined army team partially because the Skiovorus looked so cool.

Well, screw that guy, it was probably my bad generalship, but the robot/alien/thing couldn't kill anybody even with his plasma rifle - though I think you could just about consider it more of a rapid grenade launcher than a rifle - whereas this scrappy little dude called a gwailos decided to murderize half of the enemy team in one round. How did he do this you ask? Why, by being a dirty cheating alien with ridiculous voodootech wizardry, that's how! Nano screen is freaking awesome! Especially on a MI who already has a couple of points of armor to go with the cover. That he was counted as having a spitfire (turns out it was the BS model, when I looked into buying one) certainly helped! And now I find out that these guys can be linked in their sectorial, and that there's some crazy people eating/copying human-form monster that can follow them around in their link!?

Then I looked at the rest of the list, it's all creepy and sneaky stuff, either impersonating and assassinating dudes just like the Fiday, combat dropping and copy-catting the most powerful enemy, or maybe the fact that there is a freaking TO T.A.G. (that looks awesome) in the same list as 20something point TO light infantry... these guys are crazy and look like loads of fun!

Did I mention the sapper who can dig his own fox hole and take a sniper rifle that a freaking hacker can guide directly to the target with an FO in place?

These guys seem to be the vicious alien equivalent of my beloved Bakunin Nomads, but even freakier and sneakier.

Am I kind of grasping what's going on here? Basically a lot of light infantry with neat tricks, probably some of them will die to a stiff breeze (but not the expensive ones, those all have automedkit!), but they've got lots of avoidance/stealth/tricks? So kind of like nomads/bakunin but with emphasis on light infantry rather than medium?

Is there a good way to start with them? I guess I mean, is the Shasvastii Expeditionary force filled with solid units to bring along or should I look to individual blisters? Doesn't look like they have a lot of unit boxes yet, are many of them liable to be getting resculpts soon? I like how they look now but I could have said that about the morats and look how they turned out!

Are there any pitfalls to using them in game I should know about? Any crazy tricks that only the Shasvastii can do, or that they do as well or better than anyone?

Thanks for reading my ramblings, I certainly don't need another force, but these guys are just about too awesome to ignore!

One thing shasvasti can do well... ? Hold ground. For things like quadrant control they're very good as they have their seed embryo state. Makes an LI almost have 3 wounds.

Other than that don't know too much about them, only versed them but not played with them myself. They have a sizeable range of infil specialists, with camo but that's kinda their thing so no surprises there.

They are relatively expensive though as you pay a bit for their seed state and automedikits half of them seem to have. So whilst they're quite safe with camo, MSV is problematic. The intruders have always been quite active against them for me.

The sphinx is pretty crazy with 6-6 and twin flamers. I think you may have just had a bad run with the skiavoros. I hope you took the sepsitor Lt option rather the the cheapo. Its worked well from when I've seen it in action.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

The teams were chosen for us ahead of time, he didn't have the sepsitor as far as I know, and it was probably too complicated for us to try to use it then. I think what it really came down to was the guy rolling a lot of 15+ and 20's on his dice, almost absurd really. I'm sure plasma is actually really deadly I just had a bad run with it.

I like the sound of the sphinx in conjunction with reasonably cheap noctifers so you can freak your opponent out and have more than one TO marker that could be the tag (even if he knew you had one) or maybe some minelayers to drop mines to seed the list up to 10 models (incl mines, hidden, and obvious) so they may get a bit complacent and not consider hidden deployment Sphinx!

I still need to trawl the list for a good hacker, and see about hacker/FO combinations for the guided sniper rifle

The Skiavoros is an EI unit so you won't need to worry about it if you are running a pure Shasvastii force. And i don't think you need a hacker for the guided sniper rifle just the FO. Although its nice to have a decent hacker for ITS missions if thats what you are playing. Noctifers are a decent option though for hackers.

Oh ok, I hadn't looked into GML or GSR lately, maybe I'm thinking hacker because of nomad Custodiers shooting a marker and FO-ing through it, and guiding the missile that way.

Yeah I had a vanilla list with 3 morats, daturazi, skiavoros, and the Gwailos, the Gwailos was my favorite for sure.

Thats becouse of HD+, normal HD can't mark at all, don't see this chaning in N3. So you can only mark with FO with the Shasvastii as they don't get HD+.

Yeah, I knew that, just wasn't good at expressing what I meant. I think they've got 3 TO/camo FO options two of which have infiltration, might not be as cute as the nomad variant but it should probably still work.

In honor of the super-gwailos from the demo game I ordered that same model (the BS one), the BS Aswuang (cause he looks awesome and I think he's eating someone's skin!), and the shrouded sniper to burn up my amazon credit. I think as soon as Miniature Market gets the Corax spec-op in, I'll pick her up too so I can give the Gwailos a spitfire (maybe a magnet?) and the Shrouded a Shotgun (definitely figure out some kind of magnet). The spare sniper rifle will just have to linger until it finds a use

It works, a sapper makes it even better hide somewhere hard to get, -6 to hit thanks to cover and mimetism. It my not hit as hard as a GML but much hard to kill.

Yeah, the sapper is the one I was thinking of to be the shooter. Really cool model with the cloak and all. And if that doesn't work, the Sphinx'll get 'em!
