Just a quick question on these things. I ran into a player who traditionally ran AM running these guys the other day , and I wanted to know if we were playing them correctly.

By his interpretation of the rules, they were essentially 14 all round Leman Russes with greatly reduced prices but permanently immobilized. But , unlike the way I thought fortifications were supposed to work , he insisted he didn't need to man them with a unit and I couldn't take them over.

I don't own the Strongholds book but can someone confirm or deny that this is how these things work? 80 point 14AV pie ate dispensers seem a bit silly to me.

actually, aren't there 2 battle cannons available, and the way I read the rules, you still have the turret, yes?

The model was officially a "vengeance weapons battery" and I'm just trying to be sure I get the rules right. It had 2 Battlecannons, and each one was a 14/14/14 perma-immobilized 3 HP vehicle which could fire just like a leman Russ with the str8ap3 pie plate. It was impossible for me to take them over, and there did not have to be a squad manning them. They were 160pts total

I'm just trying to verify if those rules were correct. And if they are-holy cow I may need to get some of that for my orks.

The points total is incorrect, and they have to use automated fire to shoot.

Ah. Automated fire. That wouldn't by any chance be something like "must shoot at closest enemy unit" or somesuch?

From just a basic examination of the rule book it looks like there are a bunch of interesting rules he conveniently forgot about with these things.

1) they share a single profile. I destroy one of them and it takes out two guns

2) there's a separate building damage table-he insisted that they were exactly the same as vehicles in all respects.

3) I don't think he can position troops inside the Vengeance as he was doing?

Honestly I'm surprised I didn't expect this sort of thing from that player. He's been kicked out of every tourney we've had so far for making up which upgrades his units have and using the wrong weapon profiles for his leman Russes.

You need to buy two to get dual battle cannon (and the point cost should be higher than what you mentioned for both).

Vengenace Batteries don't have any transport capacity (they are impassable buildings), so they only ever fire with Automated Fire - e.g., BS2, and must fire at the closest target. If your opponent was picking and choosing his targets, then he was gaining a major advantage.

Yup.

Nope - they're separate fortifications, just using a single slot.

Nope. If there's an upgrade that allows it I missed it.

Uh, yeah. So that was annoying. He was also splitting fire basically hosing down my entire army with them.

So now the question is, Battlewagon with 3 Meganobz and some nice friendly Mekboyz, or 4 empty trukks, or maybe a kongaline of 10 man Gretchin squads. I'll just have to get there before he can challenge one of the 12 year olds like he usually does.

Each turret fires independently, so each one fires at the closet target. He gets to split it like that.

Also, he has to fire them last, if I remember correctly.

These things follow the basic Rules for Buildings, so please bring this entire section of the Rulebook to your opponents attention.
