Hey.

There's a Tournament coming up and I've been wondering a lot lately about what I should be taking. I keep switching lists in my head and am about to go mad so I could really use some thoughts about this list of mine to still some of my worries. Do I have enough troops? And what about anti-air? Would this list worry my opponent, or does it have some major flaw that I'm not seeing?

Please give me some pointers. :(

Edit: New List

40 points left over, or 65 if I go for a lvl. 1 Librarian. How should I kit out the Tactical Marines? I know I'm lacking numbers, but between obtaining synergy and covering all my bases with anti-horde, anti-air, etc. this is what I came up with. Any thoughts?

The "grand" plan is to Outflank and combat squad my two tactical squads and then combat squad my Centurions and place them to either side of the Knight Paladin. I want to keep them outside of 18-36" during the first turns and just shoot soime stuff in order to whittle down my opponent. Hopefully this will also prevent me loosing First Blood and spare my few scoring units for late game objective grabs. The Knight paladin will counter-charge if/when the opponent comes too close.

Got lots of AP3, lots of AP2, some anti-air and 6 Objective Secured units. Look alright?

I have to say I don't rate the stalker, if you end up playing someone without a flyer it is 75 pts that cannot hit anything on the ground without 6's

Personally I would always go for either a StormTalon or perhaps an Aegis line.

Stick a scout sniper squad behind the line and you have the option between trying to snipe some special weapons or unleashing the quad gun on flyers or light armour.

Thanks for your thoughts, throwoff.

Hmm, that would be more expensive though and would mean dropping another unit or equipment as well... Any suggestions?

The Stalker should have an average 1,2 hits on any ground target because of TL, but will shoot at full bs against skimmers as well as flyers. So it should be good aganst Tau, Eldar and Necrons. Also anyone with a flyer will have to take it out, maybe cutting my Knight some slack.

Still no good?

Hmmm, now you mention skimmers it has turned me back a little.. if you were making a strong list for local play I would still advocate an Aegis however seeing the average tournament lists that have Serpant spam again and again maybe you are onto something...

I do think you are a little light on troops as well, is the tourney maelstrom or eternal style? With eternal you might struggle to hold objectives.

It is eternal. I can combat squad to have 6 objective secured units, including the rhinos, but they should be fairly easy to remove for any decent player.

It's one of those things I'm unsure about in this list as I usually run 3x rhino/razorback squads fully kitted out with either plasma & combi-plasma for meq, or full melta, multi-melta & combi-melta for anti-armor. Because of the two expensive centurion units and the knight everything is else becomes pretty budget. :(

I was thinking of using only one unit of grav centurions instead, to add more troops, but what stopped me is that regular Tacticals don't usually inspire much fear. Don't really know what would be best. :(

Most tourney marine lists I see are bike heavy, it seems that is just the way the game is now, I personally always run two full tac squads plus a couple of scout squads, snipers are fun in cover with their cloaks giving them a sold 3+ (2+ if I can squeeze in a techmarine)

Having something to sit on a backfield objective and still be useful helps.

Are you sure you can combat squad centurions?

I do drugs.

Oh, guess I can't. Well in that case I'm leaning towards a one centurion unit list - that gives me 300 extra points if I drop the missile launchers. Could add another ten man tac squad with more kit and an ekstra stalker for anti-air though some people have suggested a Land Raider (bit of a waste IMO).

Still haven't settled on anything. :(

I think I'm starting to settle into the idea of bringing something not too dissimilar to my usual list, after all. I Played against Plague Marines yesterday and won pretty nicely with a 1850 version of the list below (albeit I had 44 models and not just 24). I think I do need a dedicated assault unit in my list in order to capably threaten my opponent's centre if I so wish. I have the nice ability with Raven Guard CT to scout move my rhinos ahead 12" and I need something which can keep up with this and the Knight if I decide to push forward. So, in the end I didn't go for the Dev Centurions which would have to be footslogging.

Since it was pointed out that I was lacking anti-air by some on another forum I decided to throw in an extra Stalker. Against Eldar, Dark Eldar and Necrons, who I think will be my thoughest opponents, they should work nicely due to the prevalence of skimmers in these armies. I would think, at least... Additionally they serve well as backfield scoring units - armor 12 and their long range giving them decent survivability.

So... New list:

HQ
Librarian - Terminator Armor, Lvl. 2, Stormshield, Force Staff - 125 pts

Elite
Assault Centurions - TL Heavy Flamers, Hurricane Bolters, Siegie Drills, Omniscope - 200 pts

Troops
10x Space Marines - ???, Rhino - 175 pts
