In an Apoc game today, Farsight Bomb (8-9 Fusion Guns + 15 gun drones + Farsight + Buffmander) shot at my "Living Fortress" which is an apoc formation that allows me to join 2 Hive Tyrants (Monstrous Creatures) with 3 Tyrant Guard (Not MCs) and 3 Hive Guard (Not MCs). The rules appear to be utter unclear if the Farsight bomb was entitled to reroll wounds when shooting at the unit. We ended up deciding that if the closest model was an MC, then monster Hunter worked, but if not, Monster Hunter did not work. Is there anyone with better insight into this rule?

It is unknown how this is supposed to work exactly.

As such, you will get the following:

a) Since the Hive Tyrants are part of an Infantry unit (and counts as a normal member of the unit for all rules purposes except where specifically stated otherwise), and you are shooting at an Infantry unit, then you do not get the bonuses from Monster Hunter.
b) Well the unit is a mix of Infantry and MC, therefore you are shooting at a Monstrous Creature and you get the bonus.
c) No you are wrong.
d). Your mother!
e) You are just trolling.
f) Yeah, well RAW I'm right.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Is it sad I can picture names that would go along with your a-i?
Yeah, broken situation is broken...

Give or take, that's spot on.
Err, I mean "Darn, Happyjew, I could have written that post in 5 less characters! Such a troll. Concede now." (I am joking, of course. )

On topic: Happyjew has it right.

Since it is unknown, you should figure it out with your opponent (before the battle, just ask them how they want to play rules like that, then there's no hard feelings mid-game).
If you want to go as close to RAW as possible, Independent Characters are part of the unit they join for all rules purposes, meaning if they're joined to infantry, you won't get benefits for Monster Hunter outside of a challenge and (I think) Precision Shots(?). (I could be wrong, please nobody bite my head off for this)

Probably not, I imagine a number of us can.

If I sound like I'm being a condescending butthole, I'm not. Read my reply as neutrally as possible, please and thank you.

Problem; the closest we have to a "Unit Type" for the entire Unit is it's battle-field Role and there is simply no such thing as a 'Infantry Unit' within said Battle Roles. It is something that has always bothered me when I have seen people referring to the entire Unit as x or y, even when the Unit is made up of only x or y. Given that there is simply not enough evidence to support for the concept that the Unit even has a 'Unit Type,' let alone enough support to formulate a method in order to determine what Unit Type that Unit actually is, it is not possible to refer to the Unit as a whole based on the 'Unit Type' that it may or may not even have.

That wonderful joke of Game Workshops, naming something on the Model a 'Unit Type.'
Second to making certain Rules rely on this information, but ensuring to provide no method to determine what that needed value is till after the point the Rule is meant to modify... you know, like this one!

That was what I expected, but I thought it was worth asking anyways. Thanks.

Seeing as how this is not backed by the rules, please mark it "HYWPI".
