Played a Tau player and his squad took 5 shoota wounds. He then proceeded to roll each save 1 by 1 . I didn't mind it but after the game I looked though the rules and could not find anywhere to state he has to roll fast dice. Did I miss anything?
Do get me wrong I know the percent is the same but it just seems to me he made a lot more saves going 1 at a time.

No rule for rolling like this I believe. It's the same odds and some people are convinced that each individual role is somehow a 'reset' thus they won't get 'unlucky' and role a 1. Only time I would question/report this is if it's a tournament and I feel this is an attempt at 'slow play'. I'm not hardcore or have ever done this as no one gave me a reason to but there are some games where this could seriously make a 6 turm game only go 3-4 turns to their advantage.
Note, I do understand that people role 1 by 1 when models are different in terms of wargear, stats or some other form of uniqueness and thus look out sir or other items are to be considered. But 37 single armor saves for a mob of 30 termagaunts is a waste of time and I would explain this to my opponent for the sake of efficiency and spirit of the game. Automatically Appended Next Post: If every model has the exact same save my opponent and I role all savings throws at the same time. It makes sense and is efficient. In the event the next model to die would be your special character or sergeant etc...we then perform look out sir roles and every successful roll then implies a different model dies other than the character (unless the LOS role fails then the character takes that wound and dies).

It's typically etiquette to roll all your saves at once IF the entire unit has the same save type. I often will only roll single dice if wounds are being allocated to a different save unit or my HQ.
I will sometimes tank a few wounds on Warboss, or if it gets to my Warboss I need to make my Look Out Sir! rolls before I roll for saves on the Boss. If I just rolled all the saves, and failed enough, I could lose my Warboss. But if it's just a crapton of boyz, I'll roll em all at once. Save time.

Up to your TO. At our tournaments, we force everyone to roll all same saves at once, IC are allowed to roll one-at-a-time with a few exceptions. Rolling e.g. 21 saves for a regular unit is considered slow play and an offense.

I'd be suspicious if they were rolling each individual dice one by one in a similar way, i.e. to minimise the dice rolling to sufficiently "randomise" the result.
One can train oneself to "roll" the dice, with the dice handled in a certain way, to try to increase the chance of rolling certain numbers.

I'd consider it "fair" to roll all the dice as fast dice if the same is the same for all the models.
There is no rule that says you have to do it that way, but anything else would be rather suspicious.

It's not 'suspicious' at all, unless they are manipulating the rolls. Some players just prefer to roll them one at a time.

But why roll them 1 by 1 unless you are getting an advantage?

Drama, mostly.
Rolling them one at a time builds suspense, particularly when they're rolls that potentially have a big impact on the game.

Alternatively some people just have irrational beliefs that they roll better when giving each dice the respect and special treatment it deserves, or something.

Well good luck to 'em if they ever get shot at by a 50-man IG blob under FRFSRF. Never see the end of the turn.

This is actually my biggest complaint. It drags the game out soooooooooooooooooooo long. My boyz pile on 30 wounds and the other guy wants to roll them 1 at a time. Oh well, it is his\her prerogative so I will chalk it up to quirkiness.

Usually when I see it, it is only for some 'special' situation. If someone insisted on 'always' doing it, even against IG blobs.... I may decide to just pack up and play someone else.

I really think not playing is a drastic measure. Granted I probably could fit 2 games in the same amount of time though.

I'd not bother dropping out. Given my only viable opponents. It takes one of them about three hours to set up a game because he won't shut up and get his stuff on the table, and the other guy spends most of the match rules-lawyering and telling me that I did stuff wrong. The shortest game I've ever had was a 500 point game that took about 5 hours. Dropping out wastes tons of time for me.

I lolled at the "won't shut up and get his stuff on the table." I can squeak out a 2k game in about 3 hours with the right opponent. The opponent who likes to talk takes about 5 hours.

Better than the opponent like likes to walk away from the table to get a sammich for 30 minutes There is a time and place for fast dice but when your opponent is rolling 20 wounds on basic guardsman its time to pack up and walk away.

And those people are cheaters. If they genuinely believe that they can get make their dice non-random with their superstitions then they're no better than the person who brings loaded dice.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I had a gentleman(used loosely) explain to me how to roll the dice to have it show up the number desired. He was able to get the number desired most of the time. However he couldn't do it with more than 2 dice. Something about the way to pocket the die in the palm near the thumb, and giving it an upward toss which limits the actual rolling of the die so that it comes up the number closest to the palm. Either it works, mostly, or he was real lucky.

Well, that escalated unexpectedly.
The original question has been answered, so I'm going to go ahead and lock this before it gets any sillier.
