I'm currently working on creating a (at least partial) manufactorum set on an ork-conquered Forge World. I feel in order to truly convey the ork process of looting, I have to create a genuine appearing manufactorum and go from there. I started with some ideas and then I realized I don't know what the aesthetic of the Mechanicus cult is. I'm quite aware that the Imperium has a hard-on for heavy Gothic architecture and that even Space Marine space craft are adorned with sort of style, but what about the Adeptus Mechanicus? Are they the same in the sense that they build to venerate the Machine God rather than the Emperor, and thus have a similar building style?

Opinions and lore-accurate facts are both appreciated, but please make it clear if it's something you found in the fluff, or something you thought up. (Bonus points if you have the source!)

"Just the act of orks looting it defiles it! There are Techpriests rolling over in their graves!" "Yeah! I'm rolling over them in their graves!"
"The usage of shipping containers is much like 40k technology: It's been handed down from tech-priest to tech priest, until none of us really remember how it works and we go through many pointless rituals in the belief that it will keep it alive. " - Dayspring

While useful, I'm primarily concerned with the exterior of the building. I would imagine there's a great deal of pipes and smoke stacks and such, but beyond that...Not sure if it would be Gothic or otherwise.

Gothic but tech with a dash of steam punk I seem to see it all mixing.

But everything on a rtruely giant scale, miles of factories, km high smoke stacks, factories the size of cities.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I feel like a complete and total dunce for forgetting about that Space Marine game. Thank you very much, Selym.

Schrott

Don't forget the sheer scale.

Ad Mech like to go BIG, and I mean BIG. Even the doors are big, a 7 foot tall space marine is small compared to some of them. I've heard of some Ad Mech guys towering over Astartes so it makes sense.

So big things.

Regiment: 91st Schrott Experimental Regiment
Regiment Planet: Schrott
Specialization: Salvaged, Heavily Modified, and/or Experimental Mechanized Units.
"SIR! Are you sure this will work!?"
"I HAVE NO IDEA, PULL THE TRIGGER!!!" 91st comms chatter.

The Space Marine Game shows it. As per my images.

I generally use art-deco designs, a la Rapture in Bioshock, just done in red and black, fitted with brass and steel.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Technically its more Diesel Punk or Cyber Punk than Steam Punk, but not many people can tell the difference.

Steam Punk does carry the grittiness you want, but you need more of the Diesel/Cyber punk technology than steam vents.

You'll still have cogs and pistons, but more advanced than traditional Steam Punk.

Its a derivative of Cyberpunk just like Steam Punk is.
