So from what I've gathered, Psykers are able to detect other Psykers, but what about non-Psykers? Can Psykers easily hide their ability from them? Or does that vary wildly from race to race?

I would imagine it was vary from person to person as well as race to race.

But im not sure how it would work.

Usually a Psyker can hide amoungst a population without being noticed as long as they don't actively use their powers and are not especially powerful. But there is also a subtle wrongness of most Psykers that is off-putting and if someone had prior experience with Psykers they are much more likely to be able to pick them out.

Also note that the more powerful a Psyker is the more likely they are to not be able to hide their ability from blunts (How Psykers refer to non-Psykers).

Blunts are actually more than just non-Psykers, they're an untrained/low-grade version of an Untouchable.

However, it seems to be a common theme that psychic ability begins to manifest (most commonly) at puberty, and is fairly uncontrolled. Maybe the Psyker gets lucky and has divinatory powers, and so there's no real obvious cause as to why he or she just knows things... but if the poor kid is a pyromancer, well, there's not much you can do to hide the fact that things burst into flames around you when you're mad... which is pretty much all the time when you're a teen.

I'd imagine a properly trained psyker could mask his psychic signature by using some conscious effort on it, no matter how powerful he actually is. But many seem to relish the rush of it, using their psychic power for the most inappropriate things instead of just using a tool or weapon.

Someone may be able to hide from a regular person but with all the dedicated folks who hunt them. There rounded up like cattle it seems to power golden trhone etc.

There going to specialists at detecting them even a minor one or someone hiding there powers will find it hard to hide from them.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

You're thinking of Blunters.

Blunt was introduced in First and Only by Dan Abnett to mean "Someone who's not a psyker", as a derogatory term used to describe a Guard colonel by Inquisitor Heldane, although I can't remember who he was talking to.

And then Abnett describes Alizebeth Bequin as a "blunt".

Unless it is a pskyer trained to go undetected, like an inquisitor, it is very hard for them to hard their ability.

Dark Eldar have ways of deteching psykers without psykers. They go through their domain killing them off so as to be less visible to she who thirsts

Unless a psyker is actively using their powers, and those powers are in the category of "obvious", then non-psykers won't have much of a clue.

And even psykers won't always be able to detect each other, dependent on a lot of variables. Such as active use of power, general power level of the psykers involved, if you are trying to detect/hide from each other, and how much psychic "static" there is in the area. Even non-psykers have a psychic signature, only Blanks have none or negative psychic energy. So a psyker could hide from another in a crowd where his signature is lost in the group.

Blanks on the other hand are easier to detect. They have an aura of "wrongness" around them that causes them to be shunned. They're "creepy". A non-psyker wouldn't know what they are, but they would know something was off about them.

There is, that, too. Someone who's just Epsilon or Kappa-grade is hardly a blip on the radar, a talented Delta or better class of Psyker is far more easily detected.

Beta and Alpha-class Psykers are generally obvious to everyone around them that there's definitely something off about that guy, unless they are actively trying to mask their presence.

DH has a skill called Psyniscience, available to certain classes but conceivably learnable by anyone, that denotes an individual's abilities to detect Psykers and psychic phenomenon, or the trail of such.

Huh. I was once refused a job because I'm 'too creepy', I wonder if that's why nobody ever manages to cast spells on me. :p
