So, I just finished reading White Dwarf #30, including the (horrific) rules for Nagash. Talk about a Bio-Titan! I haven't read the new books yet (obviously) but I definitely plan to.
Anyway, this looks like a really pretty cool and exciting new movement for Warhammer: Fantasy Battles, and I wanted to see what Dakka thinks of it!
What does it mean for your army(ies)? Are you planning to buy some Vampire Counts (or Tomb Kings?) models and try out the Lore of Undeath? Do you think this will be like the old 40k Armageddon "Global Campaign" thing, where the outcome of games will be tabulated somehow by GW and we will affect the destiny of this (okay, totally fictitious) universe?
Personally, I am hoping to see some other releases, and some "Apocalypse" (because there are clearly some similarities here...) type "data sheets" for running super groups of Lords and Heroes for the different armies. High King Thorgrim could finally be coming out to play! Tyrion and Teclis, together on the battlefield at last!
Anyway, what are your thoughts and plans?

The thing I most like about this is story progression. I play VC & intend to get nagash, all his cronies, the book & the morghast (reapery looking things). Mainly because I LOVE nagash. It's why I wanted to play undead.
That said the thing I love about the whole "end times" is we may see some story progression in the form of book updates / battlescrolls. Possible options include:
Archaon (this is almost certain to get a dataslate / special rules for end times because well duh)
Malus Darkblade. Semi-spoiler alert there is a prophecy that he is supposed to be insstrumental in bringing about the apocalypse according to a DE legends. MEGA SPOILER ALERT
Grimnir - Maybe he comes back for this end times fight. Maybe as some people think he's actually Hashut.
Caledor - If stuff gets bad enough and the vortex destabilizes maybe he comes out of stasis?
Lizardmen - One of their major slann has apparently woken up & said something, there's a blurb in the current WD about it.
Not sure what it may mean for other races as I'm not to keen on their lore but these all seem like lord level choices & with armies of the end times being able to field up to 50% lords I could totally see a campaign book / battle scrolls for them.

Thanks for all the great posts, everyone! I am definitely hoping for some "resurrection" of heroes and Lords. Again, I'm excited about the possibilities for games including these "Primarch-like" super heroes. Themed armies have always been my favorite, and this really gives a lot of encouragement to do that. There are indeed a lot of hints about what might transpire, and I hope that the references to Bretonnia might also mean (finally) that they get a look once again.
Plus, as @Dorian said, VC are just cool. I once painted an army for a friend, and would be lying if I said that they don't appeal to me on a geeky level. I was reading the TK army book the other day too, while reading the battle report in WD, and they look cool too. Poisoned attacks and Heroic Killing blow seem to be the only realistic possibilities to kill Nagash, and TK have both. Again, Bretonnia has the fluffy background including Knights on monster-hunting quests, and it would be cool to see them come into life once again--it's been a really long time.
Anyway, I am glad that others are getting excited about this--that's obviously the effect it's having on me.

That'd be Mazdamundi - he's the only living named Slann, and he's also the most psychotic. As in "save the world by killing everyone" psychotic.
Be nice to finally get a kit for him - I have to assume they were planning one, since he's the only Liz character without a model and yet they kept him in the new book!

Unless they change his (or monster's) rules a bit, he's hard to justify. He's a nice unit and very nearly worth all his points. But he's just too expensive, a cannon-magnet, and if he gets anchored in melee he's not very good.
You got a horrible non-fighty caster on a big gribbie monster.

True, but Nagash is a Level 5 (!) Wizard, and so I reckon we're going to see the return of other powerful magic-workers, and conceivably could even see others achieve that status. These are like Primarchs, after all. So, in that sense, it's probable that many forces, especially those with strong magic use (Lizardmen, High Elves) are going to get new Lord units.
I also think that, with Nagash costing 1000 points, this is going to lead to some high-points games, and in that case, these high costs (King Thorgrim, or Orion are other examples) will end up not being as high a % of our overall....and we've got 50% now anyway in this new format.

But I'm sure the monster portion of his statline makes him decent in combat. Plus, high WS, S, and his melee weapon help out a lot. I don't see him dying to anything except a Brettonian knight with HKB.

Static combat res is a bitch. A horde of Halberds losing say 6-7 from combat comes back does say 1-2 wounds, 3 for ranks, banner, bsb, ect and its a tie combat or nagash loses by one. He is still a single model that will hurt him like it does others trying to grind on big blocks

Well, that's why, like everything else with TK, you send something else into combat with him, like Chariots or some TG. Then, they deal a good bit of wounds, and you have some Thunderstomps to help out as well.

The thing is that Mazdamundi has to do 1 wound, with his ASF mace, and Nagash loses his armour and ward, most of his spells, his +1 Strength and D3 wounds, and his ability to store power dice.
At that point, the stegadon just goes smash.

That's not true at all. Maz gets one attack. At WS2. IF he hits, he has to roll a 6 on D6 to destroy magic items. So chances are it will never happen.
The monster only has 3 attacks. It might get thunderstomp, but it depends on what it fights. It has impact hits, but you just don't want Maz in CC. It's not a dragon...

He only has to hit, actually.
With 1 attack.
At WS2.
And then roll a 6.
Maz is actually pretty crap, as it stands. His steg doesnt get a ward save, and both of them have entirely normal basic statlines and rules - and Maz's magic items are meh, at the best of times. The only advantage he has over a standard Slann is that he's a loremaster of whatever lore he knows.

I really like the new Arkhan, they improved the miniature massively. I think a chariot would have been cooler than the horsething he rides now, but I already have a nice paint scheme in mind for it.

Does anyone actually have the Nagash miniature?
The new miniatures look awfully flismy to me, almost like something just made for display. I have issues with spikes breaking off my minis after extended use, I'd have to imagine my rage if I bought the new Arkhan/Manfred/Neferata kit and it broke off the base or something like that.

He doesn't ride it.
The monster doesn't have any stats. It's incorporated into Arkhan's.
The three main mortarchs, on the steeds, have a minimum of 8 wounds. Neferata has 8, Arkhan 9, and Mannfred has 10.
