Mike have you heard anything? I think productive rules discussion is dead in the water until we get at least a better understanding from the official source on the intent of some of these rules.

As soon as we get some play time in, I'm sure the discussion will pick back up.

Honestly I would rather get more information about intent before moving on. The direction of any rules we come up with can change drastically based on their decisions.

I have a quick question about something OTHER than airplane karate.
When you are building a squadron, specifically Destroids, and you give the core Squadron the Command Destroid upgrade card, it gives the Destroid Leadership 2. If I then put Captain Dietrich in that Destroid as a pilot, he gives that Destroid Leadership 1.
My question is, do the leadership 1 and 2 stack to become Leadership 3? Or does only the higher Leadership ( In this case 2 ) count? I wonder because Dietrichs card doesn't say "+1Leadership" like some other Hero cards, so I don't know if its appropriate to stack in this case?

There is no magical FAQ yet. I meant it would be a good one for them to add to a future FAQ. Which is already looking like it's needed.

Is this an "Officially Sanctioned By Palladium" FAQ, or a "Mike's House Rules As Vetted By The Community" FAQ? Meaning no disrespect, some people are going to want more than your word on the matter. I recall you mentioning that you've submitted the FAQ in question to Palladium and that they would be reviewing it. Hopefully something goes up on the website soon. I imagine they're probably catching up on things during the enforced non-shipping time, but now that people are actually getting their boxes in hand and are building figures, this really should become a priority if they want to have even the veneer of supporting the game and community in an official capacity. Edit: unless they intend to have you do it and simply note "Whatever Mike says goes". Which would be a whole other can of worms to discuss. :-P

That is a much as you can or will get until PB vets and publishes a complete Errata/FAQ. They are still working on it with other parties besides myself. These are a version of what I submitted to PB. So if you want "Official" it will not come from me. I've made that clear.

Just wanted to be absolutely clear.
Hopefully Palladium will recognize the importance of supporting the game with such FAQ info and errata in an official capacity.
While I respect that they're very busy with wave one shipping, that's simply something that won't change in the coming months and years; the game may require attention regardless of whether its convenient or not.

Going Rules As Written, you would get the Leadership of the Destroid and the Leadership of Dietrich added to your CP. Page 25. Basically every iteration of Leadership no matter where it's coming from adds that many CP's to your Command Pool. There's no "stacking" or "overriding", just every "Leadership x" present in your force gives you CP's. Of course, if that destroid is killed, you'd lose it's Leadership 2 as well as Dietrich's Leadership 1.

Hopefully it'll be better than the last time they answered questions from customers.
Given how well they answered the 10 Questions, I'd really not expect much from the FAQ. 10% direct answers, 20% subtext answers, 30% handwaving dismissal that it's actually a problem, and 40% we'll get back to you, and never doing so.

You might be waiting for a while. The guy that actually wrote the rules works for Ninja Division. PB took his rules and added a bunch of crap to it.
Hopefully, PB is trying to play test and collect as many questions about game play as possible. That way when the game releases to the public, we'll have a proper FAQ.
My realistic pessimism kicks in and says the 5 guys that work at PB are half heartedly unpacking containers and packaging the contents to ship out at the rate of 1-2 boxes per day. Then there is the track record of FAQ's from their other games...

To reiterate the point that judgedoug just reiterated, so to re-reiterate, this thread is for discussing the RRT rules. Now, you are posting in the right thread if you want to complain about the rules. But please take all complaints about PB not handling the FAQ process properly to the other thread. Thanks.

Well - we had our first starter scenario game of RRT this afternoon. We ran "First Contact" except, as you can see, we used plenty of terrain rather than none.
The game ran very smoothly and was a lot of fun. I am pretty excited to play again soon.

So anyways,
first game of RRT was had on Saturday! Had hoped to get two in but time was restricted. Had a small 4x4 area loaded with city and park terrain, and just played with the forces from the first Scenario (two units of 3 Regults, one unit of two VF-1A Valkyries).
Impressions:
- after the first turn, the core rules are a piece of cake.
- in fact, I really like that aspect. The core rules are so very simple that you've got them learned quite quickly and it's only a matter of learning the special rules.
- missiles are very interesting; I like their mechanic a lot. Firing a volley of 4 gives you as a Valkyrie player an interesting conundrum - go for being lucky and try to hit nearby enemies (including those out of LOS), or focus the entire volley on one mecha (and probably get a kill due to it being Inescapable?)
- Valkyries can take a bit of a beating and can dish out an insane amount of damage. Honestly the GU-11 in Battloid mode is insanely awesome.
- The differences between a Valkyrie's three modes are very slight but enough to really make you think about what mode you should be in that turn. Fighters are obviously faster but are very difficult to be hit, Battroids get the gunnery bonus but Gerwalks are so very maneouverable and the piloting bonus is very nice
- Regults are terrible, but I'm sure it's because we forgot to use both Life is Cheap and Focus Fire
- Regult leap is very useful in urban terrain
Overall it was very fun, fast, and rewarding to play (especially since I won, with one heavily damaged and one lightly damaged VF-1A).
I can see it getting a little bogged down with very large forces, but even I'm not sure that will be the case if you play several smaller games first to memorize the rules. It seems like a game that will flow very quickly when both players have all the rules and most stats memorized. Considering the low variety of units and the fact the rules are not very dense, I see the learning curve -> memorizing curve being very very short.
Hopefully another game or two next Saturday, we'll see if my impressions change then. (though I highly doubt my impressions of Regult popping will change - it's very satisfying to kill them)
