Hey all, with the new assassins dataslate I've been considering adding a vindicare to my eldar list for his obvious potency (modeled as an eldar outcast sniper). My question is whether Illic is ever as good as the assassin. Clearly the vindicare is a better overall killer and more survivable, Illic only really adds the ability to take pathfinders and some interesting deployment/objective shenanigans with his rangers and deepstrike. (he also has a chance at ID'ing multi-wound models but its nothing to really count on)

So should I ever run Illic as Illic? Or is the vindicare just better in every situation?

Hmm Sniper to sniper, Distortion helps both vehicle and multi wound but is hardly to be counted on while a vindi can just chose to do multi wounds or St10 pen attempt

Illic being cheaper but can attach to another unit for better survivablity and is better in cover from shroud vs Stealth but Vindicater has much longer range.

I think there is hardly ever a situation where illic would be better considering the vindicare straight ignores cover, can go through invuls and can also muti wound some one out as well being harder to LOS.

Why not both? I'm about to be running Illic and Pathfinders (low points means more Rangers and other units instead of my sniper core setups but just give it time) and the Shrouded Illic and Stealth Rangers/Pathfinders makes for a 4+ Cover save in open ground. 2+ in anything better than a ditch, and that's a lot of things. Using Illic and Pathfinders as the main force backed up by long range heavy weapons such as Falcons, War Walkers and Vypers with big guns, the Vindicare is a single unit and VERY potent in his own right as well as a tank busting option.

So I suppose that for killing, the Vindicare wins, but for building an actual list, that's Illic Nightspear that can really make it an army of snipers.
