Alright so I just started playing and I have some questions about template weapons, more specifically wraithguard d-scythes.

1) With the d-scythes against say a unit of orks where some models in the unit have multiple wounds and some are single wound models how are the instadeath wounds allocated? Are they allocated before the regular wounds or after? Are they random or does one player get to choose where those wounds are going? Or are they automatically allocated to the multi-wound models? or do you roll to wound the multi-wound models separately? Or is the answer none of the above?

2) This one is probably already somewhere but when firing a template weapon at an artillery unit is the gun's toughness used for all hits or does each model hit get rolled for separately and the total hits are calculated by the total number of models under the template?

1) Allocate all wounds starting with the targeted model closest to the firing model.

2) Artillery toughness is used for determining wounds. Total number of hits is always determined by the number of models the template is touching.

That doesn't really answer the question. because the ID wounds and regular wounds all happen simultaneously. So lets take an extreme example:

there is a unit of 20 ork boys (1 wound) joined by an ork warboss (multiple wounds) hiding at the very back of the unit. After determining that there are about 40 hits there are 20 regular wounds rolled (4s and 5s) and only a single 6 was rolled so one instadeath. Do you allocate the instadeath wound onto the nearest model and then resolve the rest of the wounds against the unit or do you resolve the regular wounds first which kills all of the boys and then the instadeath is allocated to the warboss.
in the first scenario the warboss only loses one wound, and in the second scenario he is killed.

Split wounds with different special rules up, and allocate them in the order you wish.

Just to be clear, the "you" in this case is the person making the attack. Rulebook Pg 34-35 "The Wound Pool" and "Allocate Wounds & Remove Casualties".

Ah, I see.
As Quanar above noted, Pg 34-35 of the BRB tells you how to do this. They happen "simultaneously" but you decide which wounds to apply first if there are different rules involved in the wound pool.

Ok I just read that section and it clears it up very nicely, It says exactly what you guys said it did for any non-rulebook-owning members reading this thread.

Thank you everybody!
