Good news.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Yeah, all I'm seeing is a woman who can live as herself rather than being trapped in a male body.

How is that a bad thing?

I suppose plastic surgery is now something that's covered by Obamacare.

Why not, healthcare is bloated as it is, lets throw everything on there.

I'm good with this.

Fiscally speaking, the fact we bought thousands of MRAPS for like $1 million a pop and then cut them up for scrap later bothers me a hell of a lot more that someone having a surgery to treat a condition recognized in the DSM.

I'm gonna call it now; this thread is going to consist of some people being cool with this, some people insisting that it's just plastic surgery and shouldn't be covered, Breotan insisting on using male pronouns, possibly a couple of people commenting on her attractiveness, an argument over whether or not trans* people have a mental illness or not (and thus whether they should just get therapy or not), followed by an inevitable lock.

I myself am glad that this is possible. I'm also pleased at the fact that the author of that article made a point of using female pronouns throughout

Yeah, we're selling them to civilian law enforcement too, as in, in addition to chopping them up. They go for about $2,800 under the 1033 program - pretty sweet deal for a million dollar vehicle, huh? I guess now cops can be safe from all those IEDs in Boise and Bangor.

My point is we spend so many countless dollars to kill random people, often the wrong people, I have a really hard time drumming up outrage over the cost of helping American citizens with their healthcare. I'm glad she got her surgery.

You do know those MRAPS been sitting in a bone yard for the longest time for the facilities to start grinding them down which went online in late 2010 in Bagram only. MRAP's that are Battle Damage or Battle Destroyed. If a weld cracks in one MRAP it is Not Mission capable and removed off the line and replaced. We're not destroying the Mission Capable ones. You also know those that are marked Battle Destroyed/Damage are stripped of everything that can be used Including the shattered ballistic windows because one can peel off the good layers. So basically its the body being destroyed

Those MRAP's are handle by 401st AMC in both Iraq and Afghanistan. That includes every vehicle in the MRAP family

My point remains that what we consider to be a waste of money is pretty subjective.

So basically, everyone should have 100% free medical no matter what because we spend too much on Military?

I mean I could be down with that, I feel my eyesight might need correcting in the future.

If you think your a woman it could be argued that its reconstructive surgery. of course biologically she will always be a man because DNA...but whatever..

I know most insurance terms the plastic surgery received if your in a car accident and your nose has to be more or less repaired/replaced through plastic surgery differently than if you want to have a nose that looks like that one person on that one show.

I fore one have always felt I was a tyrannosaurus rex on the inside. I require reconstructive tyrrano-plasty.

Anyone see that southpark episode about rhinoplasty?

Ironically she looks like a girl who worked at a knife sharpening shop I know who offered to be my live in slave at my art gallery as long as I don't let her out of the basement, but that is a story for a different time.

It's cool that you erected such a substantial strawman from what I actually said to what you wish I said, because I know right from the outset you're totally not worth arguing with over this. I will say only that yhere is no such thing as "free" medical care, I never pretended there was, I'm OK with our tax dollars subsidizing healthcare over how we piss away so many of them now, and I would prefer that we have socialized medicine such as other first world nations do; like Sweden or Canada or the NHS.

There is a HUGE argument currently going on in Australia right now where minor proposed changes to health care could begin a slippery slope into turning our helthcare system into an american system where the poor can't afford medical help when they need it.

I still struggle with the concept that so many Americans are against their government providing free medical service to their citizens paid by taxes.

I've had 2 kids born in america.

The first one cost ~80k usd, insurance covered all but 16k, I paid 3k for my insurance that year. The second one I paid 7k for my insurance, and they covered 100% of the cost, it was more than 80k usd due to some complications. These are very good rates for insurance comparatively that I get through my work.

No country should put the health of its people below that of money... I have no idea how some people afford healthcare here, you have my utmost sincere sympathy if your country is looking into amerika like health plans.

My mistake. Someone told me something like what I posted in passing, but they meant something else (facial surgeries). You're right.

Thing is, not even the government provides "free" medical services someone ALWAYS pays for the bill. Hence why American health insurance plans are so expensive. The exchange is a load of gak, and when I was selling it, I did EVERYTHING I could to keep people off of it, and I'm in a state that has it's own, state formed/based exchange system.... The people on the Fed system, I truly feel sorry for. And rarely is it actually taxes that pay for the hospital or medical services.. There's a pretty big reason why 3/4ths of all bankruptcies in the US are due to serious medical issues. What's even worse, is that 60% of THOSE people actually HAD medical insurance at the time of their incident!

@blaktoof That sounds about right, if a little high (I know you said you had one with complications, but the 16k sounds high for a standard delivery/gtfo, everythings normal birth). My sister-in-law had her kid in the hospital she works at... I mean, hell, she's one of the top ER nurses there, and she STILL had to foot about 6k out of pocket (ohh, and until Obamacare came out, the hospital literally didn't offer ANY coverage, she was able to sign up for something through her husband's work, as he's a firefighter in the area)

We have a lot of excuses as to why we have such an idiotic, backward, and insanely expensive way of handling health care; it would be Un-American to have it any other way.

Wouldn't mind socialized medicine myself, but I wasn't certain where you were going with that military talk.

I'm not sure if I think these kinds of absurdly expensive procedures should be covered by ACA provided health care, but I don't think we should pretend that these procedures are done frivolously.

For GOOD insurance like what I have to cover a gender reassignment, there are a significant number of stipulations that must be fulfilled, including multiple psychological evaluations, etc. They're not just done willy nilly.
