Won't stop me from figuring out how to make Azir support. Heard the same thing when Ori first came out, didn't take too long for her to be used as a decent one for a while.

Having gotten in a few games as Azir, I really love his game play. It's nice when they release a champion with a play style very different from those already in game. He's got a few bugs (his soldiers at times seem buggy and don't attack) but those will be fixed and they don't seem to be much of a hindrance.
For those playing; I've seen a bunch of players do things in the wrong order. Rule 1, always keep 1 of your soldiers in reserve. Harass and farm using the other as the mana cost for the soldier is very low. After harassing down your opponent, use the Q then E to close the gap and knock up your opponent (I've seen people do this in reverse for some reason). Drop the second soldier to secure the kill. Use the ult to protect yourself from ganks or secure kills. In team fights seek to use the Ult to split the enemy team. The jungle is good for this.
Also: You will build Nashorn's Tooth + Will of the Ancients. it's all your really need in your core. Azir is NOT a mage, he is an assassin. Be warned, Azir is a very 'all in' champion. He can't kill unless he goes all in and that leaves him with no escape. You'll need to manage your risk and have high map awareness. Azir is mobile, but only when attacking. His ability to flee is very limited and many champions are very able to chase and kill him.
The following Champions are hard countered by Azir; Yasuo and any squishy AP mid lane with limited mobility (Karthus, Brand, Ryze) and maybe Katarina.
The following Champions counter Azir; Most AD mids (Zed and Talon, Talon counters really hard, as Azir has no real answer for his ability to silence), Kassadin, LeBlanc, and maybe Ahri (maybe)

I actually heard they might be removing silence entirely, which I'm 'meh' on. Really in the midlane. The threat that Talon will jump his lane opponent, silence them, and deal a gak ton of damage in exchange is what allows him to function (It forces his opponents to be careful when harassing and getting too close as if you're in range to hit Talon, you're in range to get jumped). Without it, he's like Zed without his shadow or Yasuo without his wind wall; completely unable to midlane.
Granted, Kassadin needed his silence removed, and imo LeBlancs needs to go as well, which leaves what... Talon and Soraka with silences?

Hm. So would someone like Riven (my main) be good for countering Azir?
I know every time I play her people keep asking me to go mid -.- even though that's probably not the ideal place for her.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I have not seen this match up so the following is complete theory crafting;
If for god knows what reason, someone takes Azir into top lane (or you go mid), play very very conservatively throughout the early game and focus on farm. Don't engage him or let him engage you. Azir is weak in early game but because of his range and the threat of his soldiers he can give a hurting. Build MR and some health (Merc Threads + Hexdrinker + Brutalizer I'd suggest). Once you've got some meat on your bones, just run up to him and beat his face in. Azir can knock you up, run, or use his ult but after about 8 minutes, if he hasn't been able to kill you yet, you can just start pounding his face into the dirt.
Azir doesn't become a major threat until he has WotA and Nashorn's Tooth, which will take him about 20~25 minutes to acquire. Even then, his hitting power won't be optimal until he has a void staff or the Death Cap.

There was a time when Riven could mid and to a certain extent she still can as she remains effective against certain Midlaners; Talon, and Yasuo get squished by her as they just aren't built to take that up front beating. Karthus and Katarina aren't really equipped to deal with her either. Basically, if the midlane is someone with no hard CC, limited running ability (or gets utterly hosed by her quick stun/knockup *looks at Katarina*) Riven can midlane against them.

People keep trying to shove me in to mid even before we find out what the enemy's mid's going to be...

Yeah a lot of people don't bother with proper counter play and even when they try they don't actually understand counter play.
Riven's primary problem in Mid these days is really about the jungle. Most popular jungles right now do really well against her. Throw in her recent line of nerfs seriously reducing her upfront power and she is just to vulnerable in the Mid Lane position imo.
That's my feeling as well. Every time I get screwed over as Rvien on mid, it's cause our jungler didn't take care of their jungler when they moved in to try to gank me.
Junglers, of course, rengar* and moan and make excuses when I point this out, but RENGAR please, you're the one that told me to go mid in the first place, I'm playing as Riven, you should know I can't handle being ganked early game... my shield is too lame, early-game, to really help against any decent burst damage.
*hehe, yes, I went there
