Hello guys, I am writing here to help out a buddy who is still new to the game and looking for help and new ideas. Currently he started a Grey Knights army but is struggling to want to play the army and is now looking to trade up for my buddies Necrons who runs a "Wraithwing" and since he has asked me to help him learn to play the army I am curious what the army entails and the best way to run it. Currently I know the basics are this:

-Destroyer Lords with Scythes and Scarabs
-Imotekh seems to be a good addition
-x18 or more Wraiths in squads of x6, x3 minimum with Whips
-Warriors in either Ghost Arks or Night Scythes

Other then that I am at a loss as to how it works and such, appreciate the advice as I will be playing the game with my buddy later today, thanks!

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

First Imotekh is not good. He has no synergy with the wraithwing itself and he is kinda of bad in 7ed. If anything he's bad because he's using the HQ slot another D-Lord could be in.

The main thing is that the D-Lord takes the Semp Weave for 2+ armor and sits up front tanking all the shots until he loses too many wounds, and he gives the whole unit preferred enemy. Its a very tough unit being a bunch of 3++ wounds makes and can do a ton of damage with 3 S6 rending attacks per base and S7 ap1 armorbane attacks from the D-Lord all supported with perferred enemy.

I don't understand this.

Why is Imotekh not auto-take for Necrons ?

For only 200-ish points, you get seize on 4+, free lightning for everyone that can even wreck vehicles, knights and riptides, with a 2+/3++ save.

A D-Lord or CCB Lord is way better.

Imotekh is auto-take once you are playing in an environment where the opponent is guaranteed to be taking a lot of units (so if the point total is 2500+ or the meta is inundated with MSU type armies).

He is also auto-take if you are playing LOW and you want your Tranny Ctan to pre-emptively kill the opponent's LOW on turn 1.

If you do play him you usually pair him with a Chronotek to ensure the night fighting stays in effect as long as possible.

Imotekh is way overcosted to be an auto-take. Except for Zahndrekh, you're better off skipping named Necron characters.

It's the preferred enemy buff, plus the Mind Shackle Scarabs that the dlord should always take that buff the wraiths so powerfully.

The problem is : Tau, Eldar, other Crons, banner of dev, Punishers, grav centurions or basically all the high strength heavy dakka out there. The unit is only T4 and 3++ is great, but no better than marine toughness against Str 7 Ap- etc.

Weight of dice takes this down and everyone is bringing tonnes of shooting now.

I played wraithwing throughout 6th and it got a lot less effective towards the end. Necrons are great right now, but this isn't our best build. And Immo sucks in most competitive builds. Against an army with 12 units, all starting on the board, he hits two units turn one for average 3.5 str 6 ap- wounds. Say (generous) 3 wounds. That's two saves. One dead marine with a Bolter on each unit. Or 2 glances on a rhino. For 225 points? And giving the enemy stealth (which is a boon for tau and dark eldar).

As said above, great in big games. I've got a 5,000pt game coming up and I'm playing Immo for sure. And all of my wraiths.

Obyron sometimes shows up in lists sometimes and is worth mentioning. His teleporting ability is relevant especially to maelstrom type missions. And his ability is key to the Pylon Star.

To clarify, the lightning hits are d6 s8 ap 5 and auto hit side armor which has a lot better chance to pen vehicles than d6 s6 ap-.

Maybe if you're playing in 6th, but for those of us playing 7th, AV13 Wall sprinkled with some air support is far superior.

Orly, what's the AV13 wall with some air support list? I'm still running a semi-competitive wraith list, even in 7th. But have been playing my Tau and Tyranids most recently.

CCBs, Ghost Arks, and AnniBarges. Since it's all scoring and the Ghost Arks are objective secured its a very hard list to stop from just doing whatever it pleases especial since it still gets a ton of shooting

Throw in a couple Night Scythes and you're good.
