Here is my very first models ever painted.. I'm not too thrilled with how they came out. Any help pointers/tips are very welcome. I am really enjoying this hobby and I really look forward to improving both my painting skills and tactical skills.
PLEASE DELETE. WRONG THREAD. SORRY ABOUT THAT

What exactly are you not thrilled with?
They seem fine though relatively plain.
Personally i think they could use a color or 7 and definitely some highlights. even just chainmail (bright silver) on some of the gun edges and metal plates to show active wear and tear could make the model pop a little.

This. I like them a lot.. especially since you arent done! got to hit the metal with some highlights. Even a light drybush would do some good! Also I like the boyz bright. As the ork fights and gets bigger.. his skin gets darker. So nobz are a bit darker then boyz and warbosses still even darker! Epic warlord likes Ghazkull are so dark that he is almost black skinned!
Great job. As you paint more you will get better, but these minis are looking great! Dont be so hard on yourself. But i know it is hard to see some of the beautiful models in the showcase or online and compare your skill to those professional/ full time painters.

I prefer the dark, grimy look rather than bright, and you have got this looked sorted.
I tend to focus my detail on the head and face (I keep helmets to a minumum) so a dot or red in the eyes, bone coloured teeth and purple gums/tongue are all fairly simple bases you can put on.
The problem with boyz is that you end up painting so many if you want a decent mob..
The other thing which hit me is the bases, they arent finished (ie the bottome edge around the base. Its amazing what a diffence finishing the base makes! Makes it feel like the model is finished!
Anyway, good job, and keep it up! Automatically Appended Next Post: I have also recently got a red wash to do the lips of my boyz...but I cant face starting a hundred pairs of lips!

Hey thank you everyone for the replies. I appreciate everyone's input and praises this far. I have yet to give dry brushing a go... I'm kinda scared to mess up my work with improper technique. I keep hearing it's easy but I can't seem to get the right amount of paint (or lack of it) on the brush, it's either too much or I completely remove all paint from the brush.
Now as far as highlighting goes, I don't know if I'm the only one who's had this happen but my brushes all seem to slit in 2 tips and I can't seem to stop that from happening. Once I do figure out how to fix the issue I plan on goin back into the guns with some brass on the rivets and bullets, add a little bit of rust ( any pointers on how to do that?) and also go back into all the teeth and gums with the appropriate colors.
And yeah I know the bases aren't finished. If you look close some have already had sand applied but it was a trial run to see how it would come out. I intend to go back in and finish up the bases once the whole models are finished.
Again thank you to everyone for the comments! I guess they really aren't all that bad. I just wanna skip the learning curve and be PRO :p

The splitting could be down to paint going up the metal bit that holds the bristles ('ferule').
Either get new brushes or brush cleaning fluid from a decent modelling shop.
