There are other ways around it. You could do something as sinple as drill holes into the base that hold pins. Each time a wound is suffered, put in a pin. On the last wound, take it off.
Another thing you could do is what I did with my demo charges in my guard (the demo charge is one of the spare gas cans) put magnets under the base and magnetize whatever you want to use as a token whther it be a kull or whatever else you want to use.
when it comes down to it, you could get those lil page markers that are sticky on one end and stick them to the side of the base and they are dirt cheap in the office supply sections.

I'm not sure if it fits exactly with what you want, but I bought all of my wound markers from this site. It's a great product and custom cut.

Glass beads work amazingly, around Christmas I got a large bag stuffed full of them for a dollar. As for firing arcs, the small blast templates can actually work for this.

I really like this guys's stuff. Some of the markers are dated to 6th ed, but he produces new freebies occasionally. Print them out on paper so I don't mind if I lose a couple and can write on them.

Firing arc templates are called protractors and are available at Walmart for a dollar.
Wound tokens are called pennies and are readily available if you used a $5 to pay for your protractor.
And if you used $10? You can also get back up to 7 one dollar bills, aka, turn counters!

For wounds just use dice.

Its the perfect use for poor quality dice(like the starter set dice)

Like others said, dice usually work pretty well, especially if you have some good oversized casino dice, so they don't accidentally get mixed up with your others. You can also look on ebay. There are lots of nifty custom ones that people sell on there, and they're usually fairly inexpensive. Just search for "40k tokens" and you'll likely find a plethora

Not trying to start anything but the starter dice are far from poor quality.

I actually prefer using 16mm dice

But yeah, you can use dice for marking wounds and hull points. There's a guy on ebay that sells battle markers. Small 1" pins with custom icons, he makes them for anything from wounds, hull points to marks of chaos and turn counters
