Was there any game that you bought just because the box cover looked awesome? if so what was it?

TN/AL/MS state line.

Every Atlus game ever. Magna Carta and Stella Deus are top contenders. I don't think I've ever played either.

Black Bases and Grey Plastic Forever:My quaint little hobby blog.

40k- The Kumunga Swarm (more)
Count Mortimer’s Private Security Force/Excavation Team (building)
Kabal of the Grieving Widow (less)

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both.

I've never played Stella Deus. Magna Carta was fine but utterly forgettable. Like, I remember playing it all the way through and mostly enjoying it. However I don't remember one once of the plot or characters save it was some bog-standard affair with a McGuffin girl and dude with a sword.

I didnt have the internet until I was 10 or older, so all my early games where blind cover purchases back then.

Front Starwars galactic battlegrounds to emperor and stronghold crusader etc.

Had about 15/15 games all cover art purchases over the course of 3 years.

I stopped doing it at about 17 and started always checking reviews after getting my fingers burned as a young pup.

I think the last one I bought for the cover was something on the NES, back then they always had fething ridiculous paintings that were stupidly misleading, and Id buy something with a massive dragon and a bloke with a big axe and it would be some awful strategy game with gak graphics and no stabbing.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I had that problem too. The covers would look epic, I learned to look very very hard at the screen shots on the back before buying.

I spent 2-3 hours every few days staring at the same selection of video games at one point.

Now I have yotube to confirm gameplay.

There is not this idea.

I bought Return to Krondor based on the cover, back in the day. I mean, it had a big angry guy with one eye stabbing a map for no apparent reason! How could I pass that up?

Honestly I kind of miss the experience of browsing through a computer game store, looking at all the amazing covers. Buying online is easier, but it's not quite the same.

None, literally none. I bought - or requested, when I was too young to have my own disposable income - games based on what people talked about, what I played at friends' houses, and what I liked at the time. Buying an expensive game just for the box art never crossed my mind that I can remember, and if it did then it wasn't acted upon; especially once the internet became a source for reviews.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

Maybe 10/15 years ago I had a PC game bought for me called Thunder Brigade. Basically a game about hover tanks. It was bought by my Mum, and knowing her it was bought entirely because of box art!

Fantastic game though. Spent hours zipping around blasting enemies with rockets and other random weapons I really want to play it again but it's long gone now

I don't know if this counts but I bought Morrowind based on the back of the box, it had some real bull-shots on it as well Luckily the game turned out to be pretty awesome.

A game called beasts and bumpkins. It was like a glitchy Sim village meets a glitchy Black and White, with only the white options.

Huh, I did the exact same thing. That game looked awesome on the back (the Temple Guards really did it for me), and yup, the game turned out to be a jem too strangely enough.

Original or reboot?

For me, I can think of a couple:

Advance Wars for the Game Boy Advance (such a good game, now play it on an emulator on my phone in some boring lectures )
Blinx The Time Sweeper for original XBox (second Xbox game I ever had, with the first being Munch's Oddysee)

Then there's Mass Effect 3 where I bought a physical copy specifically so I could reverse the sleeve and have femshep on the front and back to reflect my character choice, which I guess is buying a game for the box cover

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.
