Subject: Total War: Rome 2 Emperor Edition (Free Stuff)
Rather then thread necro the previous Rome 2 thread, like I did 4 or 5 times, I'll just make a new one.
New Free Campaign pack:
The expansion will be released alongside Rome II’s Emperor Edition for PC and Mac on September 16.
Existing Rome owners will be upgraded on the same date. They’ll enjoy overhauled building chains, a more impactful politics system and better battle lighting.
The campaign takes in a brand new map, which reflects the geopolitics of the Second Triumvirate War. That was a biggie: the brawl between Octavian, Lepidus and Marc Antony which eventually saw off Rome’s republicanism and ushered in the Empire.
“We wanted to recreate the vast civil war which erupted after Julius Caesar’s murder,” said lead designer Jack Lusted last week. “You can tackle the campaign as various Roman and non-Roman factions, including Armenia for the first time.
“Our aim was to represent the titanic power struggle that led to Octavian becoming the first Emperor of Rome. It’s a pretty epic campaign, and it’s great that we can offer this to existing Rome II players for free as a thanks for their support.”
Video Trailer:
It's weird when I picture Attia, Octavian/Augustus's mother as the opposite of how she's portrayed in this trailer... I may have to come to terms with the fact that HBO's Rome was in fact not historically accurate. You sit on a throne of lies, HBO!
Exposition on the Emperor Edition:
He goes over some things that are pretty exciting, like using the political system to avoid civil war, in addition to flat out changing how it works.
Pretty exciting times. For all the heat this game gets, I find myself still loving it even this far out of release. I had a little vacation from it for a bit, but when they recently reworked Suebii's unit roster, I've been playing it nonstop. Berserkers conquering the furthest reaches of the world has been fun.

Sounds boring, some of the more memorable moments of playing Rome 2 has come from the civil war/wars I have been embroiled in. On the flip side, I really look forwards to this one, looks like it will really prolong the life of the game

Oh, trust me, it isn't boring. Boring is me keeping 4 of the whole 7 armies I am allowed at home for when - despite my masterful politicking a massive army pops up out of nowhere in the middle of my empire.
Not boring is committing seven legions to the conquest of Gaul - and being generally outnumbered - while three are holding off the Scythians and five are warring over Anatolia with the shattered remnants of the various Greek polities and a couple are holding my homefront down in case the Carthaginians get ballsy.
If you haven't tried the mod, do so.

I see your point, and yes that dose sound fun. Where can I find that mod in question? On the steam workshop, and how easy is it to install? I ask because I am not very good with such things

Yup, it's on the workshop, just click subscribe and when the Rome Launcher comes up there's a mod tab where you can activate it. It's a pretty comprehensive mod, changes a ton of stuff so it might be worth reading up a bit.

So far it's reminding me of Barbarian Invasion, from the first Rome: Total War, as it gives you a sizeable empire right off the bat, wether you are Lepidus, Octavian, Marc Anthony or Pompeys son. Egypt, Armenia and Parthia also have a decent chunk of land as well. The few barbarian tribes available in single play seem small, in comparison, but they may be able to carve their own empire while the "super powers" fight amongst themselves.
Starting now as Octavian's Rome, which is Italy and France, for the most part. My first plan is to finish what Caesar started and finish off Pompeys son, then my fellow Triumvirate fellows Lepidus and Marc Antony.

Been playing a fairly drawn out game as Pompey. Using the Radious mod that among other things gives you four turns per year.
It's been interesting, and tough. Managed to get Antony to declare war on the other two and be friendly with me (that took a lot of bribes), which let me take Africa province away from Lepidus while he was distracted fighting Egypt. With the money I made from that, and thanks to the Marcomanni aggressively pushing into Gaul and keeping Octavian busy I have been able to retake Italy all the way to Massilia.
It's been a fun ride so far, and now the tide is turning in my favor - Octavian has collapsed from the Germans and me hitting him from either side and just declared himself a client of Lepidus who still has a stronghold in Iberia. My "ally" Mark Antony has lost all of Asia minor and a good chunk of his client states to the Parthians, so when I get sick of bribing him to like me and that relationship sours - once I've reunited the West under my benevolent Republican auspices - I shouldn't have trouble rolling up Greece. Hell, I may be able to peaceable wrestle Egypt away from him as a client.

Tried it. Still found it as unenjoyable and difficult to get into as I did with base R2. Glad it was free.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.
"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation
Well, I have united western Europe under the banner of the Senate and People of Rome. Lepidus and Octavian have been destroyed and the Germans pushed back to the Baltic, their strength shattered.
I cannot express how much more epic this is with the Radious mod. When I finally moved against the Marcomanni (and then their allies, and their allies allies) I had eleven full legions tasked for the campaign. As things are winding down and the Germans have been effectively annihilated as a people I have sixteen legions operating in northern Europe.
My choices, as far as I can see are to
- move back west and take Britannia. I hate having an ambivalent power like the Iceni at my back. They can probably muster five or six full stacks and have a decent navy, making it prohibitive to station a force strong enough to oppose them along my borders. They've absolutely shut down offers of trade and nonaggression and I will not pay what they want as far as bribes. Far better to introduce them to my legions
- continue east against the Roxolani. It's convenient, I have my troops nearby, and they are at war with the Dacians - my strongest client state. However, the cities are spread far apart, and relatively poor.
- move south, and forcibly reunite all of Rome. Mark Antony is squatting on some of the richest territory in the world, and is far too close to my heartlands for comfort. On the negative side, he is for now at least a staunch ally.
- move against Parthia - the Eastern juggernaut is starting to crack, it's territories revolting and fragmenting. It still possesses extremely powerful armies (probably 12 or more stacks), but it can't break into Europe or push past the Nabatean/Egyptian alliance into Africa. The problem here is one of distance, and I would have to garrison quite a few troops against the Roxolani and Iceni. I don't fancy going after the Parthians in an open field engagement without superior numbers. On the plus side I sent my two most experienced fleets east after Lepidus was destroyed, to interdict Parthian expansion into Europe, and we managed to take Sinope and are training a Legion there. It's second rate, but with two full fleets backing it the city should be able to stand against anything except the full Parthian army - which is needed much more elsewhere, so I have a foothold.
Once again, so much more bad ass with Radious. The climactic end of the Marcomanni was my faction leader with about sixteen thousand veteran legionaries against twelve thousand howling barbarians. So awesome. And that was only one of the three armies.

Are you sure that's not already in Emperor Edition? I just checked and my game has 1 season per turn and I have never installed mods for it.
So unless the game's backup file that I got off someone else installed the mod without me knowing at all (I don't know if he even used the mod) and the mod manager has either glitched out or I don't know how to read the mod manager, which is blank as far as I know. 1 season per turn is now the standard.
I've been playing the Seleucid, because as far as I could tell, they're the only faction that has and elite unit in every category except Missile Cavalry, but they have missile elephants, which I like much more. Plus they start off with about 7 Satrapies, most of which rebel after attacking someone. After playing for a while it became too easy, so I guess I'll restart the campaign on Very Hard, which I've only chosen because there's no Public Order bonus, also apparently it's not really that hard.

Emperor's edition was one turn a season, based off of my free weekend of play.

Built myself a new PC recently and have started playing the Roman Grand Campaign using the Radious Mod .But just 20 turns or so into the game I'm quickly getting bogged down on multiple fronts and its really sucking the fun out of it.
I've destroyed the Etruscan League, taking their two cities in North Italy and the Island to the West, but they're sending the remnants of their (quite large and powerful) navy against my cities in wave after wave. I think I've repulsed at least two navies trying to take Neapolis.
The Celts in North Italy took advantage of my weakness by sending a huge army stack against my northwest city (captured from EL). I managed to repel it with a desperate bridge defense using a scraped together garrison army of Roriari spearmen, Hastati and Velites/Leves. I then tried to send my garrison army north to take their closest city, but its stuffed full of powerful sword units, so I'm beating a hasty retreat back to my bridge.
Then Carthage declared War and sent a full Navy stack against my Island (the one I took from the EL), the spankers. I've got that wonderful battle to look forward to when I peel myself away from Planetside 2 and Shadow of Mordor.
And to top it off, Diplomacy is useless to me because everyone hated me from the get go, or at best were indifferent, and nobody wants to trade. I can't afford bribery yet, because I'm sinking all my funds into my military to fend off wave after wave of full stack armies.
Any advice for an early game Rome Campaign, using the Radious mod? (I'm playing the Julia faction).

With the Radious mod at either of the two higher difficulties, you either need to be prepared for nearly endless early war, or play a faction with a diplomacy boost. Just remember the four turns per year, so expanding quickly is slightly less important. Especially at the beginning you need to be ready to personally fight most of your harder battles.
