Shrikes are flying Tyranid Warriors. GW doesn't make a kit for them, so we have to customize our own. I purchased 6 used shrikes that were on custom flight stands with warrior bases. I have had people complain about base size ever since I bought them, and tried to use them in games. So I purchase several Large flight stands to replace the custom ones. They work so much better on these stands, not falling over at all. However, the large flight stand is significantly bigger than the warrior base, so now I've got people complaining about the new bases.

I know there isn't a perfect answer, but I'd really like to use the large flight stands so they don't fall over all of the time, and so that the wings don't get in the way of keeping the unit in coherency. But I also don't want to get dinged for modeling for advantage, or not running WYSIWYG in tourneys (not that shrikes make most tourney lists).

Here are some pictures to give you an idea:

If there is no official model, then there is no official base size.

Use whatever looks appropriate on your model, and you will have few issues. If it's for tournament gaming, then if you are at all unsure about the reception that they will receive, just run them past the TO before the event.

Yep, no official model means no official base size.
However, I would think using either a 40mm base or the clear flying base should be just fine. They are classified as "very bulky," so they certainly wouldn't be on a 25mm base.

Clearly using the warrior base, converted to include a flight stand in some cases.

Those exist. Mine are better, and done with those wings. Forgeworld is attempting to sell you a Conversion Kit without including a flier base. It is more profitable for them to do it that way, but it doesn't mean it is correct or that flying bases are wrong.

Shrikes are flying Tyranid Warriors, I would use warrior bases.

Yeah, I agree with 40mm Warrior Bases. FW actually produce Shrike Wings which fit Tyranid Warriors fine.

EDIT: Really should read all the posts before I post...

Gargoyles are flying Termagants. They use a different base.

Why would Warriors and Shrikes have a different relationship than Termagants and Gargoyles?

Because there is not a model for Shrikes.

If there were you would use the base they came with.

Same goes for Gargoyles. If there were not any models for Gargoyles, I would use the same base as a Termagant.

I would have no problem with my opponent using either 40mm or 55mm flight bases. I would prefer that each unit is consistent.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
