Hey guys. I'm currently working on a Whirlwind missile launcher turret. I had an old Sisters of Battle Rhino I want to make into a Whirlwind for some extra artillery. Its made out of two gluestick tubes, superglue, and a large plastic command strip utility hook. I'll post pics when it's updated.

One of the original whirlwinds featured in White Dwarf years ago used a 40mm base for the missiles (bottom of base facing out). You can also use one on the back after drilling out each of peg holes.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

UPDATE: Here's the turret primed only in black. I will probably color it, but for now, it suits my purposes. The launchers were made from two gluestick tubes, the ramp and base were made from the command hangar. I ripped it apart to give my self two flat bases, one for the bottom and the other for a solid ramp, then used part of the curved plastic to build the pivot. Let me know what you guys think! After parts, about $5, I saved about $10-15 versus buying a new turret/a whole new whirlwind.

There is not this idea.

I like that. Simple and elegant.

Thanks. I might add some sprue-made triangles to simulate the tips of the warheads, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Seriously, a WW for like $16 alone on eBay is nuts.

That looks very cool, very simple but it gets the job done.

We go for the eyes.
Then the tongue.
Then the hands.
Then the feet
Then we skin the crippled remains.

To me it looks like junk glued together and put on a tank :/ Not trying to be harsh, but this would have been acceptable in the late 90's early 2000's when we used empty deodorant containers as the basis for tanks, but that was a long time ago. That is not to say you couldn't make these work, you just need to give them some more detail. For example, the Space Marine vehicle kit comes with an Aquila embellishment. Why not glue one on each side of the barrels. Maybe some rivets? I dunno, it just needs some more work to make it look better.

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. Grrr.

That's why this is a starter, hence being only primed. Honestly, for trying to make gak out of thin air, I'm pretty proud of it.There is more I want to add to it, but as a base, I'm satisfied.

I think that was a bit harsh. Use your - imagination to fill in the gaps. Y'know - that thing that makes you ignore the utter ludicrous nature of 40k and play it anyway*

(Besodes, Deodorant tanks are sooooo late 80s, anyway. We were all over scratchbuilding vindicators and whirlwinds in the 90s. This would have fit right in.)

* Well, until your 'suspension of disbelief' filters clog and you have to either stop or put up with it just not making any sense at all.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

While I always promote creativity and individuality, i do think it doesn't feel much like a whirlwind. I've always assumed the name came from the whirlwind of missiles being unleashed. If you could somehow fill the two "barrels" with multiple missiles I think it would work a lot better. When i imagine this tank on the battle field I think of the cannon unleashing two giant missiles (or lasers, bullets etc) which scares me to think of, but that's not the feeling you're going for.

Looks good to me. Sometimes simplicity is the best option.
