It seems like they only care about the pursuit of knowledge and lost technology

the way i see it...its like a sub cult, like any religon to day...best example christianity, catholic, christiants, jews and so fourth all believe in "god" but each view things differently. Some focus on grand rituals, some view their prophets differently but in the end worship the same thing...i think they believe in the emperoror but focus their attention on tech

They believe the Emperor is the physical embodiment of the Machine God, so it is safe to assume that most members of the Cult Mechanicus care about him.

As for the Imperium, they entered into the Treaty of Olympus and are allies. The Imperium protects them, gives them Navigators, and the AdMech makes them weapons.

It's complicated. As Crimson Heretic says, they're a diverse religion with many different beliefs. For example, Oresteans believe that the Emperor and Omnissiah are separate entities (ref: Titanicus) while the Divine Light of Sollex believes the Machine-God makes his will clear through the divinity of laser weapons, holo-emitters, and other light-related things (ref: The Inquisitor's Handbook).

Oresteans may help the Imperium out of the logic of mutual defense - without it, the Mechanicus will fall. Sollexians may help the Imperium by manufacturing the best laser weapons in the galaxy, but not necessarily out of compassion for the Imperial cause, but simply because they're doing what's holy.

The Mechanicus as a whole definitely cares for the Imperium. As mentioned before, it's only logical.

No impirium they may survive but not have the same resources or assets to call on.

alone both are far weaker, together they may not see eye to eye 100% of time but are far stronger combined.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.
