So here's an interesting scenario that happened at my game store today, to which no one had an answer.

My Telepathy psyker cast Dominate on a Flying Monstrous Creature, and succeeded.

According to Dominate, the creature must pass a Leadership Test before it tries to move, shoot, assault, etc. If it fails, it forgoes all actions for that phase.

The Flying Monstrous Creature was Swooping, meaning it is required to move a minimum distance in its movement phase.

If it fails its Leadership test, what happens? Is it forced to land? Is it forced to move its minimum distance straight forward, like a stunned flyer? Does it take a Grounding Test? Does the spell just not effect it at all in the movement phase?

The game ended before we had to actually deal with this question, but the fact that no one had an answer for it brings me here tonight.

Are there any rules or FAQ's relating to this? If now, how would you rule it?

I was a kid now AND a squid now before it was cool.

Since the MC could choose to enter glide mode, or whatever "jump pack" mode is, the MC could do so to abide by an inability to move. In Jump Pack mode, the model could voluntarily move 0", which would satisfy Domination's requirement to not move on a failed LD check.

You make the ld check before you move, so if the check is failed, the MC can abide by the rules of Domination by switching to glide [ide-ide-ide-ide... funny if you were born in the early 80's] and then not moving.

It forgoes all action, so is switching flight modes an action?

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

No it doesn't - you included an "etc" in your original post, but the power isn't worded that way. It only invokes a leadership test if the unit tries move, manifest a psychic power, shoot, Run or declare a charge. The unit can perform any other type of action at will.

Logic dictates that it just switches modes and stays still. RAW is a little more sketchy.

DanielBeaver,
What original post, I simply stated a question that did not include the abbreviation ect.
Though it is early and I am away from my library, which led me to overlook something important that renders the question itself is completely irreverent....

Having looked over the actual Rule itself, many thanks Fragile, I think the Rule as Written solution is for the player to be very careful about their next few actions. The Leadership test, and the consequences for failure, only trigger on specific events so it is possible to avoid them for a small period of time. During that period it could be possible to change the flight mode without triggering a Leadership test, depending entirely on the wording for that Rule, but my faulty memory is suggesting happens before Movement.
