Hey guys, entering a tournament at my LGS that's a HQ Kill Team, basically up to 1000 points, min 4 models max 5, max 6 warp charges, and from one army book only.

My plan was to run Karandras, Jain Zar, Maugan Ra, Fuegan and Illic Nightspear, but curious to hear any thoughts on what I should run instead. My only concern is the lack of invulnerable saves.. Though I'm hoping a majority of the time I will be stirking first and should hopefully be able to take down the opponent.

Personally not a fan of Illic. Sniper's aren't great, and super expensive snipers are bad. I'd trade him in for Yriel: Same points, but another CC beat stick with some extra abilities.

Alt., Eldrad, Fuegan, Karandras, Maugan Ra, and Autarch w/mantle on a bike. Psychic powers are nice to help you adapt to opponents. I've been playing Eldar so long now that playing w/out a farseer of some sort at any point level just seems odd. Mantletarch doesn't put out the hurt like Jain Zar, but tbh you already have a ton of AP2 weapons, I doubt there is a perceivable difference. He does bring a bike, which brings you mobility, which you lack.

Anywho, that's my take. Herohammer Death Match sounds like a blast, so whatever you decide have fun.

***Edit***
Might should be in Army Lists though.

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

I did think of running Yriel instead of Illic.. But that 'cursed' special rule scares me, as well as the fact he has 0 shooting power. And the instant death on 6's to wound sounds like it could work amazingly well (or badly if I can't roll..)
I did think of maybe running a farseer instead of Illic to cast some powers, but I didn't think it would be as effective as it sounds on paper considering you can't join together the models to make one 'unit', and he'd probably get taken down pretty quickly.
The main reason for Jain Zar was the banshee mask modifier (-5WS and -5I to model in assault phase I charge in). Which would work well with Karandras I thought

Is it a special rule for the tourney that they can't make one squad? Cause normally that wouldn't be an issue.

In any case, I agree buffing powers might not be as big a factor as in regular games. However, there is always telepathy. Almost every power in tha tree is gold for taking out characters, one way or another. Psychic shriek alone would put a Farseer/Eldrad on par with Iliac.

All said, you're picking the strongest of the Phoenix lords, with really only Iliac standing out as a poor choice. 1 ap2 shot, if he doesn't move, that wounds on a 4+ is not going to do much in the format you are talking about. The instant death will rarely be a factor, given how freely EW is given in special chars, and even if he sounds every single turn it would take 3 turns to neutralize one target in a best case scenario. All in all I find it hard to believe 140 points could be spent worse on an autarch/Farseer.

Odd rules. Why 5 max? IG won't even be able to reach the 1k cap. And i'd love to run an ork HQ horde of meks, a painboss, wierdboyz and warbosses. HQtide!

Anywayz, max MSS lords alwayz win such tournaments.

As for eldar, laughing exarch ain't bad.

Yeah, kill team follows different rules. Usually you can't take any HQ and each unit in a squad acts as its own unit individually. This tourney for fun he's made it HQ's only.

I see your point, and I think I'll go for a jetseer with mantle instead. Will make it easier for me to paint by saturday as well as I already have one painted up.. And haven't even started on Illic yet.
