Hi all,

I recently noticed that Daemon Screamers were mentioned in several articles about tournaments, e.g. Nova. I haven't used them so far, how are they used to full efficiency? On the paper they look okay, but not too overwhelming to me. Are they useful as allies for CSM, or only in a pure Daemon army?

Any input is very much appreciated!

Screamers are great because they have everything a CC specialist should.

Speed - move 12 and can turboboost
Durability - sure T4, but 2 wounds with a jink save and re-rolling 1s
# of attacks / AP power - having a few attacks, or a single armorbane means you can throw them at whatever you want, and all at initiative. Screamers are Daemons go-to for anti armor.
IC capable - pop a herald on disk with daemonology and or grimoire and you are in business. Get both and you can be that guy! No harm done if herald turns down challenges too.

I could see a little daemon detachment helping CSM out. The thing with daemons is that everything is pretty quick, so you would need to support the screamers with bikes, spawn, or something else.
Something like...

Tzeentch herald, disk, ML3, grimoire
6 or so screamers (not sure what optimal unit size is)
11-20 pink horrors with daemonology.

This will give you 5 or 6 (pending on how many pink horrors) warp charges, which is a good chance to pop out another unit of daemons (even more screamers!?!) from your herald or pinkies. Both herald and pinkies also have flickering fire.

Screamers have saved my bacon in a few games. Turbo boosting over for line breaker or contesting while slicing up a unit they zoom over. Summoned units of 3 are perftect for taking out that pesky quad gunner, or throwing at a TDA unit.

Ah thanks, I didn't have putting an IC in on my radar, also the jinking.

I agree with you, this should fit nicely into one of my faster CSM lists with MoN bikes, Spawns and Maulerfiends. I already use Heralds of Tzeentch and Pink Horrors, but I was thinking in the last time how to use the Herald more efficient than putting him into the PHs. Guess I'll get a few screamers and try it.

It is a pretty fun tactic. The mobility of the unit really supports summoning offensively, like flamers, who can pop up and shoot in the next phase.

I didn't try summoning so far, but is it possible to summon in round 1 already?

Yeah, summoning is just another psychic power. You can't assault out of summon, and summoned units don't give bonus warp charges until the next phase, and I am pretty sure thy are not objetive secured, they are still super useful though. Especially screamers, drones, flamers and hounds.

If you don't want to bring grimoire, the portal glyph is a fun option to drop on turn 1 and start pooping out daemons. The unique thing about this, is that it is an open topped vehicle, and daemons count as disembarking from it, so on a turn you get daemons from the portal glyph, they can assault. Popping out a few nettes has saved my bacon before.

Just a heads up but Portaglyphs aren't open-topped.

Also screamers are awesome in large numbers for helping with things like Invisible Beast Packs.

Yeah the fly over attack is incredibly useful. Another thing with them is that they can in fact have a 2+ Rerollabled Cover save by just being with in 6 of something that has shrouding.

So that's pretty awesome.

A unit of 6 or more is great for summoning as it's got a good number of wounds and a great summoning platform as it can move then blast over something to hit them.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Screamers really are great, as the other guys have said. They're not as killy as flesh hounds or seekers, but they are incredibly versatile and SO fast. It only takes grimoire/cursed earth/shrouding to make them nearly unkillable too.

Also, I prefer a larger unit of 8/9 to get the most out of buffs.

Any particular reason you can't? Actually, you can RAW jink against the Overwatch of the assault if you want!

Yes, you can Jink and then assault You can even Jink the overwatch shots then continue your assault without any hindrance Which Is why Daemon Princes of Nurgle are freaking terrifying.
