Hey guys I'm just starting warhammer 40k and want to get into dark angels, I found a cheap codex on Craigslist and am gonna try to get it, I like dark angels alot, especially their color scheme. my question is, I want to have a ton of space marines forming the bulk of my army, but I've heard that this doesn't suit DA at all, now could I mass tac squads as about 80% of my army. Does this suit DA? If not what chapter would this work for? Thanks!

tac squads in large numbers work for any army really. that said if you're not wanting to use a lotta bikes and terminators you might be better off looking at the standard space marine codex

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I like terminators alot, but will probably never use bikes, IMHO I think that they're dumb and don't fit in with the futuristic setting of 40k

Yeah bikes are really kind of weird. They don't really fit in if you ask me.

But there's a guy at my local GW who runs Dark Angels with mostly tac squads, a thunder cannon, some special chapter units, and two squads of Deathwings and I've never seen him lose a game. That includes when he went 1 v 2 against Tyranids and Guardsmen.
I think you can run whatever you like with dark angels as long as you're willing to experiment and try different things to see what would work.

Yes, bikes are dumb and don't fit into a futuristic setting where dudes don't wear helmets and swing chainsaw swords around. The whole 40k setting is gloriously cartoonish, just roll with it!

Dark Angels can actually do masses of Marines pretty well. The thing that makes them unusual is the banners they can take on command squads - if you give a squad member a Banner of Devastation, suddenly your bolters are pumping out LOADS more fire and your Marines will be dishing out some serious hurt so long as you keep that banner safe. I'd try to hide the command squad with it behind terrain or a vehicle and centralize the army around it.

Azrael is really strong for mass tac troops. Libby with Devastators is pretty good for a Heavy tactical choice. Honestly, they do suffer versus the SM Codex, but if they're fun I say go for it. Play what you think is cool, not what is the strongest

Banner of devastation can make your bolters fire 4x each at 24 inch, so that is quite nasty.

So yeah mass marines can work very well actually.

The Thunderfire Cannon is exclusive to Codex: Space Marines, so the guy mentioned above is either using an allied detachment, or is cheating (which might explain the constant wins).
