Excellent stuff, though a bit of a cheek to sell them as upgrades when all you need are legs, arms and backpacks!

Also, don't forget the shoulder pads

So you need legs, backpacks and a single arm, as the one for the shield is included?

Yeah, no.

I do like Forgeworld, but an upgrade kit which requires only a tiny part of another marine, which aren't sold individually, is just not something I'm going to get. Like, ever. What am I supposed to do, spend near of $100 for 5 marines, and have 3/4 of a marine leftover, just missing his legs, backpack and one arm?

And I wanted to do an IF 30k army with these guys, oh well.

What'll be really funny is when certain less scrupulous businesses in the Far East decide to sell it as a whole kit; certainly wouldn't be the first time they consolidate/streamline otherwise questionable product releases.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Most 30k players near me are already using third-party legs to add variety (running, kneeling & bionic) - there are plenty of really good ones out there.

Www.trolls.cz makes that one and a few other nifty models.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Very nice, although I continue to be pretty underwhelmed by most of the bare heads FW have been putting out with Marine releases. First they had improbably narrow skulls, now they have fairly derpy features and vary pretty significantly in size from one kit to the next.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I am not a fan either but I always try to use helmets instead of bare heads anyways. I don't know why but I just do not like the idea of going into battle without a helmet on.

I bought a bunch of Death Guard from a Dakkarite & some of the models were part FW resin & part GW 40K plastic - I haven't got a problem with this, in fact they look pretty cool.
But then again I'm mixing up the armour to show how DG use what they have at the time. I will also be using some 'Chaos' backpacks as shown in the 1st or 2nd HH book + some Sons of Horus, World Eaters & Emperer's Children shoulder pads to simulate scavenged parts from the Istvaan 3 battle. I know it won't be 100% kosher but I like the idea. I will also do some with dark red right arms & pads to show them marking themselves as going back to being Dusk Raiders.

(BTW if anyone in the UK has some SoH, WE &/or EC pads or decals they want to sell, please PM me! Ta)

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Damn, those are gorgeous. I really like the helmet design on the Phalanx Warders, too. Might have to see if I can find the head bits on eBay when they start popping up.

So, based on the helmet design of the Phalanx Warder MkIVs, are they the IF equivalent of Destroyers?

That one is also cool. But is she on a 40mm base? She looks a bit tall for 40k's scale.

That male navigator by trolls is a wonderful model. Must get one.

FW are being stupid over the upgrade kit instead if a full squad kit. It's just annoying people. FW customers are the happiest of anyone all within the GW family, no need to start annoying them. Even the money aside it's just plain annoying buying multiple kits and sorting through bits.

That one guy is more an Astropath than a navigator. The lass on the other hand, she's a proper navigator, with third eye and everything.

I think the problem is the economics of scale. They can expect to sell say 20.000 kits of regular marines but maybe only 500 kits of the Imp-Fist specific ones. That makes the moulds for the later much more costly by comparisson, so if they want to make the same amount of profit, they have to charge a higher price. This however is problematic, as asking 30€ for this set of small dudes but asking 50€ for this other set of equally small dudes might lead to some questions. So they split it into a seemingly "cheap" upgrade set, relying on you to just buy another regular kit.

That said, it's not like Forgeworld isn't charging you 200% extra on top of the 100% that GW is charging you extra for the models. They just don't want to have models that bring back less than a certain high amount of revenue.

It's just kind of a piss off after all the Legion-specific units have been full casts and generally not dramatically more expensive than their closest equivalents, and the two IF units are now the most expensive 30k infantry out there.

As for FW's relative pricing, for non-US/UK regions, it's usually more like 10-20% more than GW prime (and a discount for Australia!), but every GBP more a kit costs, especially for someone using Canadapesos for instance, it becomes proportionatly that much more expensive. At present, a FW marine squad costs about the same as buying the plastic Sternguard in similar numbers, but those IF kits are now just shy of $100 for 5 CAD. That's leagues beyond every other marine choice one can make. If the conversion set wasn't almost as expensive as the actual squad you need to buy to use them, maybe it'd be different, but as it is, it's a firm "No thank you" from myself.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

FORGE WORLD BULLETIN 42

You may have noticed a whole host of new Imperial Fists upgrade kits we’ve released recently. It looks like we’re not done with the VIIth Legion just yet – I caught sight of this awesome Command set a few days ago being worked on in the Forge World Studio.

This fantastic looking Imperial Fists Command set could be in production soon.

I enjoy scouting out the Forge World Studio to see what everyone’s been working on. Neil Cook’s World Eaters Legion recently found a new home on display in the Studio and I borrowed it briefly to take a few pictures. Neil plays a very fast moving World Eaters army, with plenty of Scimitar Jetbikes and Assault Squads, supported by Contemptor Dreadnoughts and Spartan Assault Tanks loaded with Cataphractii Terminators. Even with his Legion reaching 4,500 points, Neil’s still planning on adding more units.

Neil’s World Eaters Legion on the attack!

That’s all from me for now. Make sure you check back soon for more from the Forge World Studio.

Chris.
