So I've got a paycheck coming in and I'm dedicating it to furthering my warhammer hobby. And instead of going for quantity i've decided to go for quality instead. So I've decided to buy an airbrush to use for my hobby.

My price range is about $120 - $150. Does anyone have any recommendations or warnings? I've heard the GW brand flamer thing is god awful and to just avoid it at all costs.

And here we go again.

Lot's of people will tell you to go with Badger Patriot 105 or the Iwata. Both are great airbrushes. Go with what you can get parts for locally as you will wind up bending a needle or losing an O-ring.

I personally have a Badger Patriot 105 and a Badger Krome. Both are fantastic brushes. The Patriot is incredably forgiving and shoots just about anything. The Krome is very finicky but gives a very fine line for detail.

Also keep in mind you need to buy more than the airbrush:
1. Compressor
2. Hose
3. Cleaner
4. Airbrush station with filter and fan or at least a particle mask
5. Pipe cleaners
6. Masking tape (or silly putty)
7 Airbrush cleaning stations (thing is cheap and fantastic.

Good luck.

Dang that's a lot more than I was expecting. I could probabaly afford whatever I need with a few weeks of saving. Would it be worth it though?

If you want a cheap start, you can have a look at underground wargames stuff - they have kits which look pretty average, but have got really good reviews from other forums.

Your mileage may vary, I haven't bought anything from them - I got an Iwata HP-CS and spent quite a bit more

If I were starting again though, I'd look at these kits

For 120 are on ebay airbrush sets (airbrush, compresor, paint etc..) they are best for start

"Faith is the soul of any army; be it vested in primitive religion or enlightened truth. It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imports to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose."

Once you get your airbrush, I'd recommend you learn how to disassemble it for cleaning before you start working with it. I didn't when I got my Iwata Neo. Now I make sure to disassemble and clean it after every session.

No need, there are literally dozens of these threads easily found with the search function.

OP- here is a list of beginner airbrushes I give every time this question comes up. If you want to know more about each one, Google reviews of them.

Badger Patriot 105 ($75) - solid brush, larger standard needle, good for a beginner
Badger Renegade Krome 2-in-1 ($160) - excellent brush, easily one of Badgers best offerings, very popular mid-range airbrush
Badger Renegade Velocity ($125) - older than the Krome, but very similar with less "fancy" features, uses the same needle/tip as all of the Renegade-series brushes
Harder and Steenbeck Evolution SIlverline 2-in-1 ($175) - very nice brush, good reviews
Iwata Eclipse HP-CS ($130) - solid mid-range airbrush, larger standard needle than the others on the list
Grex Genesis.XGi ($168) - fairly new but they get good reviews, looks kind of cool, needles/tips seem a little expensive

And some, I assume, are good people."

Get a compressor. Aircans suck!

I've got a Paasche Talon and it's great. Came with 3 different needles (for varying spray sizes). I mainly got it because of the "lock" that you can set to keep you from spraying too much paint. I like it very much and Paasche is right up there with Badger and Iwata. Give it a review.

I think I picked mine up for $110, It came with 3 needles and a 4-5 foot hose.

This video is an introduction to airbrushing by the CEO of Badger. I highly recommend it to anyone new or interested in getting into airbrushing. There's a lot of solid questions asked and answered as well as working theory. I personally learned a lot from this video as well as having things I already knew reinforced.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!
