I've always wanted to field deathleaper but as he's not as powerful as he is awesome ive struggled, but after looking at the formations again I thought id give it a go with the assasin one.

A tournement is coming up for me and I wondered, how would this list go? We'll be playing straight eternal war missions with objectives with LOW allowed but no more than 400 pts. ( don't ask. )

List:

Hive tyrant
Wings double devourers electro

Hive tyrant
Wings double devourers electro

Rippers
Tox sacs
deep strike

Rippers
Tox sacs
Deep strike

Malanthrope

Dimachaeron

Hive crone

Mawloc
Adrenal glands

Mawloc
Adrenal glands

Death leaper

5 x lictor broods

1724.

I think it could run pretty well with the amount of cover saves going around and precision deap striking to hold objectives.

I want to test this, this week so will post feedback on Sunday!

First thoughts:

Double tyrants with Double Double Devourers. Obviously I can't argue with the effectiveness, but I still die a little inside. Not your fault; if you want an effective HQ it is just better than any of your other options.

Rippers are as easy as any way of disposing of compulsory troops, and deep strike lets you put them where you need them. I'm not a massive fan of toxin sacs - a minimum sized unit of rippers isn't going to win combats and no pocket-change biomorphs are going to change that. They're there to use objective secured and hopefully be ignored - anything which attracts attention to them (like trying to use them as an assault unit) has to be bad.

The Malanthrope is solid back-line synapse - hard to kill and with a spore cloud as a second string to its bow. However you don't actually have much of a back-line to need synapse - I don't know if you'll get your money's worth out of him.

Dimachaeron.... If he survive's he should do okay. Pair him with the Malanthrope and run him up through cover - with Leaper he doesn't get slowed by it, but even a forest and spore cloud nets a 3+ cover save. He's bloody lethal if he makes it - but he's the only big bug on the ground turn one, so try and shield him from fire as much as possible as he's going to draw a lot of it!

Everything else looks sensible. Deathleaper's Assassin Brood is a good formation but takes a bit of thought. The main reason to take it - despite the name - is the Paranoia and Ill Discipline rule and that lovely -1 leadership penalty. As a result, the more leadership-pummeling powers you can take (Psychic Scream and The Horror) the better. With two tyrants, you should get one, but that's about it. I'd suggest reaching for pinning weapons (like a living artillery node) or some garuanteed Horror psykers (broodlord retinues) to capitalize.

I forget how much Tox sacs are for rippers, but why not drop them and the Hive Crone and give yourself 2 broods of 2x Zoanthropes. Gives you a lot more opportunity to capitalize on the -LD with the Horror or Psychic Scream. Takes away some of the shooting denial game, but they can be somewhat tough cookies (especially with Catalyst, which can be cast on the Mal and Dima to give them a better chance at not dying) and makes sure your Dima doesn't go nuts if your opponent snipes the Malanthrope first turn.

Plus, I think I would rather snap shot warp blast lances at fliers than rely on the Hive Crone to kill them. And you'll do much better against ground based heavy armor. And MEQ with the blast profile versus the drool cannon.

If you get onslaught... Well that kinda just sucks. Might be helpful on the flyrants and that's it in this list...

Paroxysm is always helpful. Makes your whole army less dead.

I've found zoanthropes to be very hit and miss. They've had moments of being awesome such as one shotting a chapter master on bike with 2+ 3++ 6+++ but have also spent many games dormant and doing nothing. Sure they are invulnerable but I would rather the crone.

Toxin sacs are a massive help, especially against high toughnesss units like bikes. It really helps - at leaat it does for me!

The tyrant has double devourers and yeah, I would never take anything else! Awesome unit. Those two are my army.

I'm super stoaked about the lictors and running death leaper as my warlord. I'll hang him in the backfield while moving the malan and dimachaeron up the board in a pair.

The amount of things coming in from reserve will be awesome.

2 Mawloc's
2 units of rippers
5 lictors
Death leaper

And pottentialy a hive crone - depending on orbital bombardments on first turn. Damn I hate those!!

Cheers guys

EDIT: Can I take Deathleaper as my Warlord? He's not from my primary detachment but from the formation...is that still legal?

I've run this list and it did okay but the lictor tax is too great and they just die too easily and are removed far too quickly for my liking.

The tournament is getting closer and I'm struggling with what to take.

the restrictions for the tournament are basically;
1750 pts
No Come the Apocalypse Allies
LOW are allowed but may not cost more than 400 pts - No Hierodule for me.
1 CAD only - No Self Alllies
1 Formation allowed.
Forge World allowed.
Fortifications allowed.

Missions will be Eternal War only with 3 unique secret objectives:-
Survive - nominate one of your units and keep them alive for the duration of the game
Destroy - nominate one of your enemy units and destroy it before the game is done.
Take and Hold- nominate a piece of terrain and have a unit inside it at the end of the game.

you can only use one objective per game.

So, with that in mind I'm struggling to fine tune my list.

What I have so far is this:

Hive Tyrant
Wings, Twin linked Devourers x2, Electro- Warlord
Hive Tyrant
Wings, Twin linked Devourers x2, Electro

Malanthrope

Rippers
DS
Rippers
DS
Rippers
DS

Dimachaeron
Hive Crone

Mawloc
Mawloc

Living Artillery Node

Biovores
Exocrine
Warriors
Stranglethorn cannon
rending claws

Total 1740.

Can this be fine tuned anymore given the circumstances?

3 OS units.
4 MC's
3 FMC's

4 Synapse creatures ( Although not really fussed about synapse for the most park, except for the Dimachaeron - sigh. )

One thing I am contemplating is dropping one Mawloc for a Venomthrope and Bastion with a void shield which would bring me up to 1745.

How would that fair? The Malanthrope is for babysitting the Dima and so will be moving up the board. the Void shield bastion could help the LAN.

hoping for some feedback - experienced feedback preferred! Merci!

Would do a good job on preventing fb too. My only problem is that I really love Mawloc's. No matter how many times they mishap.
