Subject: Brand New To Necrons

Well im brand new to necrons. Looking for help on a 500 point list on what works and what doesn't. Im typically a ork player so im used to just hordes of models haha! Models/units I have available at the moment to use are:
1 Overlord
1 Lord with res orb
40 Warriors
9 Scarab Swarms
10 Immortals
3 Destroyers
2 Ghost Arks
2 Annihilation Barges
Any help/ideas is fantastic!

 Ultramarines 2500
Salamanders 3500
 Necrons 4000
Skitarii/cult mech 2500
Vampire Counts 3000 Points

I'm an dork player too but played necrons first and I played them as a hoard army haha, this was a long time ago and is no the longer the way to win battles unfortunetly, invest in a few flyers I would say, be quick

new codex is coming soonish. seeing as how the blood angels and necrons are the only ones to still have 5th edition codices, it might be beneficial to wait and see. I have no idea how soon it will come, but just a thought

Take the gun off of one Annhialation barge (you don't have to glue the gun, so you get Annhialation OR command barge-fun fact- also works with doom/night scythes.)
Try to fit in 500 points:
Overlord, scythe, barge (~180)
1 unit of Objective Holderino warriors (5 schmucks) 65
1 Ghost ark with 5 more warriors (~180)
1 Annhialation Barge.
If that doesn't fit, switch the barge with as many scarabs as you can fit.
That will be a goofily powerful 500 point list just because of how absurdly hard it will be to kill your gak. The Spooky Boat can bring your warriors back from the dead every turn if you lose 1 or 2, your scarabs have oodles of wounds as long as you avoid high strength crap, you've got AV13 vehicles and you can just slowly grind your opponent down.

That's not a bad collection of models to choose from. The only unit considered sub par there are the destroyers.
As another Ork/Necron player myself the best advice I can give you is play your Necrons the way your orks would hate to play against the most.
Use scarabs to tie up assault troops.
Remember to rapid fire while receiving assaults.
Make it about shooting, and not assaults, as often as possible.
