I thought it would be interesting to share little things you noticed in the fluff (be it in pictures or text) that aren't really put out there.

I got the idea after looking at the Farsight Enclaves map, and seeing a little phrase underneath one planet's names "Gue'vesa Planet." I thought that was interesting.

Is this fluff-only, or can I mention that all of the evil xenos (Tyranids, D Eldar, Orks) have crappy codexes?

It just seems suspicious to me...

In the HH book Mechanicum there are both Squats and Chaos Knights (iirc, might just be titans but I think there are knights...), things that people seem to think are nonexistent.

The Sons of Malice are no longer displayed in the CSM codex.

Gweilo / Gweipo is the one you're thinking about.

Gweipo is a Hong Kong term for a middle-aged or older white woman. It carries with it connotations of arrogance and self-righteous assumption, and is generally considered an affectionate insult - nothing you can do about her, she's a Gweipo. Shrug and smile at the idiosyncrasies of foreign devils.

Kind of like saying 'eh, kids'.

GW use the excuse that the Nids nomnommed the Squats early on.

Yeah, but their appearance in a HH book shows that they are not completely forgotten by GW, which gives me a tiiiiiiiiny bit of hope that there might be a "squat dataslate" or something released for 30k. It will realistically never happen of course, but it's still nice to see that they're acknowledged.

I don't know why people think Squats are non-existant, because they are mentioned in the 7th edition corerule set - Book 2, page 125.

Oh, wow. Now that's data manipulation!

It mentions the Squats in an entirely different paragraph to the line about abhumans being present across the imperium!

Please tell me how you read the section.

First there is a list of abhumans, amongst them Squats. Then it specifically mentions 4 of them (Beastmen, then Troth, Felinids and Neandors). Then it goes on with the words "The remaining abhuman races..."
Who do you think the word 'remaining' refers to, if not the list above, minus the 4 previously mentioned?

Any who have not been specifically stated as to be somewhere in particular.

Squats have been specifically stated to have lived on a series of worlds around the galactic core, and to have been eaten by Tyrainds. Therefore, that paragraph doesn't apply to them.

Yeah, I tend to use a counts-as to explain that. With the Dawn Blade just being some sort of Tau plasma lightsabre..

Read the whole section then.
First it states that Adeptus Terra recognises 73 stable abhuman races. Of these 46 are listed as extinct (Squats are not mentioned here). The remaining 15 abhuman races are then listed - 7 of them are types of Ogryn. The remaining 8 if then listed in the next section. The list starts with Ratlings, Squats being second, and the list totals 8. Thus comprising of the entire 15 abhuman races mentioned above - That is the abhuman races, that are not extinct.

So again, I cannot see how you can read it differently than Squats are, like Ratlings, refered to as the remaining, after 3 of the 8 (Troths, Felinids and Neandors) are listed as endemic and restricted to the worlds mentioned. The 'remaining' races "are variously present across the entire Imperium".
Squats, like Ratlings, are variously present across the entire Imperium according to this section on Abhumans.

Uh, sorry to break it to you, but the Farsight Tau canonically have lightsabers. Admittedly, they're Fusion/Melta tech, not Plasma tech, though.

Same with the IoM, although that's Black Library fluff.

Mmmm I remember in the Deathwatch book there was a short section from a Tau perspective.

A Water caste who was part of a expedition of the other castes was looking at one of the drone operators and thinking how that the operator probably prefered the drones to people, then called him a autaku; or basically an otaku.

I laughed at that one.

In the same section the Water caste kept thinking how different all the caste were from each other, how each of them were rather protective of their caste's duties. Oh and apparently info is pretty regulated among the Tau, only the Firewarrior knew how far the Imperial Fleet made it into the Spheres.

I'm also getting a lil' suspicious that High Gothic is a variation of Chinese.

40k has a strange fascination with mad doctors. Not just generic mad scientists, but specifically doctors. Every "evil" faction in the setting, bar Tyranids, has a deranged medic in its ranks: Grotsnik, Szeras, Rakhart, Bile...

I know, medical procedures are icky, mad doctors are a mainstay in pop culture and noone likes to be sick anyawys, but still I am curious about this odd fixation.

According to 1st Edition, High Gothic is a mixture of Pacific Rim languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Tagalog, Thai, etc). So yes, there's some Chinese in it.

It is also noted as being the language that the tech-manuals of the time were written in.

Given that this started in the 80s, I like to think that High Gothic reads like stereo instructions. ("Traverse the cable from the audio putting out to the speakers audio-in section").

That the Typhon heavy tank has a variant called the Cerberus. this is cool because Typhon is the "Father of all monsters" in greek myth, and the mythos states most monsters and creatures in such myths are his sons, including Cerberus!

Also, the damocles Rhino can call down an orbital strike, so in essence it is perpetually holding a weapon over the enemy's head, just like the Sword of Damocles in legend where a sword was held over the king's throne (and damy's head) by a single hair, able to fall at almost any time.

I consider the best hidden gem of 40k lore to be The Last Church. The most thought-out and interesting tidbit that does a lot to debunk the myths that the Emperor was a benevolent guardian of humanity. In fact the whole story, the lone human facing down the Emperor despite the hopelessness of it all, reminds me of Pious and Horus.
