Subject: [750] - Tyranid - Beginner Tyranid List

Hey. I'm new to the hobby. I asked for some advice a while ago building my first list and this is what I've come up with. So I've been playing around with this list, and I'm having some problems.
Flyrant
-Wings
-TL Devourer (x2)
-E Grubs
Termagant brood
-+20 models
Tervigon
Venomthrope
Carnifex
-TL Devourer (x2)
My main problems can be boiled down to
A) Poor Synapse
B) Tervigon Menapausing early
C) Lack of AP/high strength shots to take down heavily armored opponents. I have a friend playing AM and it has really been rough facing tanks with this list; so are troops with a good armor save. For tanks I have to hope for a good charge with a carnifex (or a vector strike with egrubs), and for high armor I'm just playing odds with a lot of devourer shots. A lot of times my termagants dont even fire until like turn 4 or so.
I'm thinking that while the tervigon is definitely good, perhaps in a low point list such as this, the points could be put to better use. How would you suggest I augment my list so that I'm not laid bare on synapse and I can bring some good utility to the table? I'm free to change up the 30 Termagants if I do replace the tervigon, but I'm not sure if I should be replacing them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'd drop the Tervigon and drop the Termagants down to two squads of ten each, which gives you a few more points. From there, I would add another Venomthrope and a Zoanthrope which gives you more Synapse and WC to cast Psychic Powers to compliment your Carnifex if you roll Catalyst/Onslaught (they have Warp Lance to help against Heavy vehicles, just don't rely on it), as well as another Venomthrope just in case the first one dies, alternatively in place of the Venomthrope suggestion you can have a unit of 3 DSing Rippers for more Objective Secured (they work outside Synapse by simply sitting on an Objective) to hold backfield objectives. Finally, I would do one of two things, add a Mawloc for an AP2 Large Blast (he works outside Synapse) or remove E-Grubs from the Flyrant and add another Dakkafex. Personally I'd be really cheesy and run two Flyrants at 750 but that's not fun for the opponent

Not much to add...Tervigons are currently overpriced for what they do. If you are running one, you should find 10 points and put a Thorax Hive of Electro bugs on it. That will help vs many different foes. vs Infantry you can use Shredder beattles.
There is no real answer to running out of baby bugs...If you drop the Tervigon, you open up a lot of room to add things. For Synapse you could use a Warrior Brood, x3 with a Strangle Cannon for 100 points. Zoanthropes provide Synapse, and Powers of the HIve Mind! Plus they have Warp Lance/Blast built in. For the cost of a Terv you could add a Warrior Brood, a Zoey, and a second Veno.. I think I'd recommend a Zoey, or two, and a Brood of Gaunts. I like Hormies, but many do not...so you might want to proxy before you decide.

Here's my two cents:
Drop the Dakkafex. He's great but I think the points can be better used elsewhere.
Hive Commander on the Tyrant
eGrubs on the Tervigon, I think you can afford Crushing Claws too
2x Zoanthropes in a brood
Hide the zoans and the venom in the Termagant brood and march them up the field to Warp Lance some tanks. Outflank the Tervigon into the backfield, spawn some gants and wreak some havoc. And that way your Tyrant has free reign to fly around and Do whatever it is that he wants to do.

I would drop the Trevi, grab the 100point Warriors brood, split the 30 Termi to 2 of 15, grab a zoanthrope and see fi you can squeeze the bioplasma on the fex. Yes it is a 3rd gun, when you need that AP2 it is good to have.

All good advice. I agree with Hive Commander. If I field a Tervigon, I would always want to Outflank it, it's kinda my "thing".
But currently, I don't use Tervigons at all... Even when I did, it was just one, with a Thorax hive, and Outflanked. It can do very well, even in the current "meta" . Vs "soft targets" like Tau, and AM/ IG. And it puts Troops into the foes backfield, and that opens up all sorts of options. (I got yur OS, rite heah! )
