I'm new to 40k and am looking for help with a good/usable army list. I have done some research and have chosen necrons as my army of choice, but don't want to invest in a codex with the new 7th edition coming out within the next couple of months.
Just looking for a possible 1000 pt list so I can get a head start on model building. I've already purchased a box of immortals/deathmarks.

Do you have the 5th edition Necron codex? Reason I ask is we can't give you rules. Just making sure. Yes it sucks that GW keeps hiding the fact that Necrons will be redone and keep selling people stuff that could be useless in a few months.

That being said, it's hard to say what GW will do. I have a feeling instead of nerds things will stay the same or maybe even more powerful. Just a hunch no proof.

That being said, while the Necrons have models for their minis, who knows if GW will get rid of them. Thinking is no they won't but again, gut feeling is they might.

Imotekh could be a Lord of War so a lot of people may refuse to play you if you use him then.

I think what ever is in the box set right now should be safe. Warriors will always be a must. Deathmarks can be changed totally different so wouldn't over buy them.

You might want a Necron Lord because I think it will still be usable for 7th codex. Could be nerved or stay the same. I think that is a safe buy.

Crypteks, not a clue. Can go both ways. Be very useful or really useless.

Ghost Ark people think will get a Nerf or point increase. I think it can still be usable so again, buying the box set should be a safe bet.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Probably the 7th rules is a good start

If possible try to get a used 5th ed necron codex

and im not sure i have ever seen a 7th necron rumor yet.

Anycase a great start would be the battle force and a CCB Box

gives you a decently working army with a HQ and annihilation barge to boot.

Rumour now is Necrons in November after the what ever Chaos release is now. So it will be soon.

If you want to start painting your minis, I would say the Necron box set is the safe way to go to start your Necron force.

Wait for the big purchases until the new codex comes in and see what you like from there.

Use your box set to see what kind of paint scheme you like, might take a few tries to see what you want.

Necrons are a weird one because they already DONT need a new codex but will nonetheless get one eventually. But the basic stuff like Immortals and Warriors and probably their transports aren't going to change so much that you shouldn't get them. So perhaps a couple Ghost Arks and Warrior units, along w a Necron Lord and some Deathmarks and Immortals would be good starts. Hard to go wrong w the Monolith since you know THAT is going to be part of the codex and it is a very cool model with some really interesting uses even now, though it has fallen out of vogue. I suspect it will be the Necron shizl in future codex's.
