I saw this in the Youtube recommended box and I clicked, I was impressed by it for a game still in alpha stage.

That's the MMO they've been working on for quite some time now. It's a F2P/P2P option, with the F2P players (last I heard) being rather heavily restricted in their choices in available classes (basically, you get the grunt Guardsman, Ork Boy, etc, while P2P can be Space Marines or Nobs or w/e).

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

It's B2P (buy to play), P2P usually implies a subscription.

It's the FREE TO WAAAAGH! Option, where you can play an Ork Boy (Because Orks should be numerous! And filled with boyz)

You can also just buy the race you want to play instead of the full game as well.

I actually really enjoyed Space Marine's campaign and multiplayer. Granted it was amazing but still it passed the time. Nothing like slamming a heretic with your thunderhammer. I am excited for this game because its essentially space marine multiplayer with a planetside 2 map. There is nothing wrong with that combo.

Being a big fan of video games (I've got over 400 days of playtime in World of Warcraft, and another 1600+ hours in Star Trek Online), and a fan of WH40k, I really hope this game is good, and I really hope it succeeds.

Hoping it succeeds is about more than just having an awesome WH40k MMOTPS to play. It's about promoting this kind of video game development, where the fans of the game are able to give their input to the developers and actually see things change, right from the start. I love the transparency policy they have. To really drive things home, there are a lot of posts on the Eternal Crusade forums who've been lied to so often by game developers, that they can't help but find hidden meanings and subterfuge in everything the developers and PR people say. I think it's a good thing to have things be so open, to the point where when the first wave of Alpha testing goes out to players, there won't be a non-disclosure agreement involved, and the developers actively encouraged people who do get to try it out, to make as many videos about it as they want to and get the word out there about the game.

I also REALLY like that they're going for a high-quality game despite being a smaller company.

It's probably going to be another F2P that ends up as a P2W (pay to win). I hope not.

the best 40k game i've played was actually squad command on psp. it's dated as hell but i still play it, really true to the fluff and tactically challenging. i did like space marine but it's very repetitive, i was this close to giving it up when the chaos marines showed up and it got interesting

I hope not as well.

The devs have been participating in the two big "What is Pay-to-Win to you?" threads on their official forums, and they've said they really want to avoid the game becoming P2W.

Apparently they're going for horizontal progression, and part of it will be having a points system for character loadout. So if you want to be more powerful in melee by having, say, a power sword instead of a chainsword, you'll have to sacrifice things in other areas because you won't have as many points to spend on other things. Or so I presume. I know they've mentioned having a points system, and character progression will basically be about unlocking a greater variety of more specialized stuff that's not necessarily more powerful, it just fits a more niche role on the battlefield.

It sounds pretty good if it works like they say.

One nice thing, is that it's gonna have more gender diversity than the tabletop game. They've said that Eldar players will get to pick their character's sex, and if I remember right, not just for the Howling Banshees, but other Aspects and classes will be affected by that choice as well. That differs from tabletop because the current Dire Avenger, Striking Scorpion, Swooping Hawk, Dark Reaper, Warp Spider, and I know I'm forgetting at least one, but they have no female models. And Howling Banshees have no male models. Gives me a lot of hope that if/when they end up adding Imperial Guard, there'll be female options for player characters. However, right now I'm getting the urge to add some Howling Banshees to my 40k list, but I'd probably have to make it Unbound or something since I'm already spending like 800-900 points of 1500 on Troops and HQ for my Sisters and Marine Combined Arms Detachments.

Ha! The history of games is P2W! When I was young and played on Arcade machines you always had the decision if you throw in another coin to be able to continue or not. If you beat a game or not was directly dependent on paying or skill. Some of the biggest classics of video game history were designed only with P2W in mind.

Whining is pointless. And the only feasible thing is to not pay for something that is no fun for you. If enough others deem it fun to keep the game alive, then who are you to complain about it?

How so, I thought the game was quite good in representing the power of a space marine and the game play was quite good as was the multi-player. The only issue I could see happening would be is the story maybe half way to 3/4 of the way though with the chaos object and how the main character was seemingly immune to the taint from the object.

The gameplay is pretty heavily inspired by/based upon Space Marine's, but the scale is way larger. This can only be a good thing! I'm really excited for it, and while some of the pre-alpha stuff is looking really rough (it IS pre-alpha, after all) I find it refreshing that the devs are being so transparent with the game's development.

*Sigh*

Try and constantly break this, everyone thinks it's F2P but it's not, just one option and that's an ORK BOY.

You buy the game, you get things, it's not *free*

Most Triple-A MMOs that have a F2P option (especially at launch) generally require you to buy the game (the "disc" as it used to be called, prior to direct-download games), even if you don't have to pay a subscription per month. MMOs that start out with a subscription base and then later go F2P often skip the disc-buying part, as they have other ways to encourage money-spending.

Yes I know, thus why I make sure it's clarified that there is no subscription.
