As a rule I only ever play with faction pure fleets, and I have had varying degrees of success with fleets of klingons, romulans and cardassions. Just in case anyone was wondering, pure cardassions doesn't work. . .

But I'm looking at federation for my next few months of gaming, but they are a faction I have never had any success with.
How would you guys go about building a faction pure federation fleet? It will be for the collective op events and my play style is usually 3 ships and I'm not an all my eggs in one basket type of player. Oh yeah, and no reasources, but I do have minimum of one of each of the federation ships before the nx wave as i haven't seen that wave in the shops yet. I'm fairly tempted to use my sutherland as I haven't had a chance yet.

What do you guys think?

The issue with Collective OP1, is that more ships mean you're shot at by the Borg more, which means more death.

It's why the flagship Voyager tactic is so popular.

It's also worth remembering for the Collective OP events, you normally will only have 90 points, plus the booster. So, with your 90 points, you're not going to be getting 3 ships into there. However, 2, plus your booster would be fine I guess.

As you have a Sutherland. Probably that paired with the Enterprise-D might do well? Though I've been hearing of good fleets for Collective OP-2 based around the Tinyprise, the Sutherland and the Reliant.

At my last OP event, we saw three slightly different lists that all had the Sovereign class Enterprise and the Voyager. That was at 100 points, but I'm sure you can make it work if you can get your hands on the E. Otherwise, Either a Voyager + (insert name of small ship here) or an E + (insert name of small ship here) fleet could work quite well also, given that you're still gonna get three ships out of it.

Collective op2 in my area 1st and 2nd were both cardasian builds. One was a 3 ship setup with a flag ship, the other was a 4 ship setup where the flag was replaced with fighters. That was before the blind ships were added which was where both were unlucky pulling the rom and marque ships.

The best preforming fed fleet was a enterprise, excelsior, reliant and he pulled the fed blind as well

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

I've been pretty much committed to the Feds for OP events since day one. I deviate a little here and there but stay true. We play faction pure but allow independents with the penalty.

For OP1 I ran a Voyager Dreadnaught but with the E having come out I would change it to look like the below. Lots of opportunity to have stuff assimilated without breaking the build and lots of cards to cough up in case you get caught.

List Name

Resource: Flagship Independent (Romulan) (10)

USS Enterprise-E (32)
Jean-Luc Picard (6)
Flagship (0)
Attack Pattern Omega (3)
Corbomite Maneuver (5)
Adm. James T. Kirk (5)
Hikaru Sulu (3)
Mr. Spock (5)
Dmitri Valtane (3)
Quantum Torpedoes (6)
Photon Torpedoes (5)
Photonic Torpedoes (2)
Multi-Adaptive Shields (5)
Ship SP: 80

Total Build SP: 90

OP2 was all about damage. One play through I took an all bare bones Klingon fleet and won 3-0 and the next I went with the 180 arc Cardassians and went 2-1 but that was mostly due to crap rolling on my part.

I went essentially 8-0-1 with this build for OP3:

Resource: Flagship Independent (Romulan) (10)
USS Voyager (30)
Jean-Luc Picard (6)
Flagship (0)
Tactical Alert (2)
Adm. Maxwell Forrest (3)
Tom Paris (4)
Elizabeth Shelby (2)
Hikaru Sulu (3)
Mr. Spock (5)
Transphasic Torpedoes (10)
Transphasic Torpedoes (10)
Multi-Adaptive Shields (5)

Ship SP: 80
Total Build SP: 90

The best thing to do, really, is to just say to hell with it and go home to play some games.

Those are really good builds, although we still don't have the ent-e over here yet, haven't even got the nx . . .

I will defiantly look into the voyager one though

The admiral Forrest card is from the NX but isnt critical at all to the build. You could swap in any number of 3 pointers to fill the gap. Word of caution, DO NOT use your transphasics until about the middle of the round. Too early and while you land a lot of hits, you may set your opponent up to get the kill. Too late and if you miss the kill shot you will hand your opponent the kill shot. I found if you throw one set when the BCT is rolling 6-8 defense dice, you'll land 9-10 hits with your modifiers and leave enough damage for your opponent to take it close enough for you to range one kill shot it or maximize your potential and throw your second set of torps.

In 5 of my 9 rounds, I never even used my second set of torpedoes, just stayed in rage 1 and got dice bonus, target lock and scans from Spock. Its a fun nasty borg killing build.

The best thing to do, really, is to just say to hell with it and go home to play some games.

We are having our OP3 this weekend, and here is what I am planning, We play Fleet Pure in my area. Independents are Neutral and can go with any Faction.

USS voyager - (30)
Picard - (5) Enterprise -E (+1 Crew)
Fleet Captain Independent (Klingon) - (5) (+Elite Talent/Crew/Crew, -1 point for crew,)
Cheat Death - (0)
Adm Matthew Dougherty - (3)
Riker (enterprise E) - (4)
Torres - (3)
Paris - (3)
Sulu (2)
Elizabeth Shelby - (1)
Beverly Crusher - (2)
Phlox (1)
Transphasic Torpedoes (10)
Transphasic Torpedoes (10)
Ablative Generator (10)

Ship gets 7 defense dice and 8 when I do not need a target lock and re-rolls blanks. Ship should be able to go at least 3-4 rounds of heavy fire before needing to cheat death. The ship has pilot skill of 10 so shoots before the BTC, torpedoes to trash the them. Torres is expendable to fulfill Dougherty’s action requirements, Beverly works with Plox to keep all crew enabled. I think I got the most I could get out of this one ship.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So after rethinking and going through my cards i have decide, to change my Tech,
Resource: Fleet Captain Independent (Klingon) (5)

Adm. Matthew Dougherty (3)
Tom Paris (3)
Hikaru Sulu (2)
Elizabeth Shelby (1)
Phlox (1)
Beverly Crusher (2)
William T. Riker (4)
B'Elanna Torres (3)
Transphasic Torpedoes (10)
Transphasic Torpedoes (10)

one more def dice, and can re-roll all my dice if needed, say i wiff on a torpedo, or roll a ton of battle stations on a def roll.
