I don' think it will make anyone come back to the game but I thought fluff fans might care. There are two new planets, the level cap is going to 60, and the skill tree is changing to a grid with new abilities and such. I didn't play WotLK so I don't remember it that much but it people are saying it is reminiscent of that where you can team up Factions on one of the planets to fight Revan's forces and Revan will be a level 60 Raid boss.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

They did, it was called Star Wars: The Old Republic.
It's funny cause it's true...
Actually EA flipped a coin between TOR and KoA as to which would be an MMO and which would be a stand-alone. KoA won the standalone, TOR got the MMO.... and this is why KoA has MMO elements and TOR has 1p game elements.
It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
If you're a subscriber and pre-order the game, you get a buff to class mission XP. How big?
12x. You can basically get from 1 to 55 by doing just class quests. I'm currently leveling a few alts, and being able to skip all the annoying planet quests I've done a billion times and stick to the story is AMAZING.
Can I join Revan's side? The Republic are a bunch of over officious busy bodies and the Empire couldn't form an actual functional government since their entire philosophy is to betray and murder your boss as soon as they show a moment of weakness.

The decision was more complex than that. Both Kingdoms of Amalur and TOR started full development to be MMOs as part of EA's narrow minded idea that they could beat WoW and the only way to make money was to try doing that.
Amalur was actually a single player game from the start, however 38 studios bought out the studio that was making it, and the game, and reworked it to be an introductory single player version of their MMO, I forget the name, which failed due to the whole studio being some kind of political/legal investment ripoff scheme for Rhode Island state money.
Meanwhile, KotOR was kind of early planned to be Knights of the Old Republic 3, and if you play the jedi story, that's essentially what you get.

To be fair, that already happened in the main game. The expansion is just about killing him again.
I'm not really a fan of the whole Revan/Revanites branch of the storyline, as imo it's too much "clinging to the past" instead of focusing on new ideas - but on the other hand, I've still preordered as I enjoy the gameplay and the interaction, so even though I don't have a stake in taking down Revan (again) I'll just kick back and enjoy the ride anyways. The four new "Forged Alliances" flashpoints and cinematics introduced with the last content patch were rather cool already, and since they are basically a prelude to the upcoming addon I kind of expect more of the same. I just wonder how much content we'll actually get for just $20 ... it seems like an unusually low price for an expansion for an AAA game.
And yeah, the XP bonus is a rather cool. Finally I can boost those last two twinks into high levels.

Well that was just a Flashpoint and not a Raid, so he wasn't all that tough, and it was sort of weird to fight him at such a mid-level. Of course at 10% health he disappears so 'dead' may be a bit exaggerated.

Revan being killed more or less "in-between" was sort of weird, but I'm already used to important characters getting offed on the sidelines of story progression from other games, so ...

That's a good point. I just took it to be the usual Obi-Wan style disappearance, but given the expansion announcement that obviously may have been a premature assessment.
Though I wonder if this was already planned back then, or just neatly fits to their current ideas.

Caveat to my previous post I discovered today: all ability training costs are 0 right now, including speeder piloting. The only real issue seems to be that you're leveling very quickly and your gear doesn't really keep up. Keep that in mind when quickly leveling alts.
Wait, wasn't Revan the good guy (...or gal)? Just based on how they're talked about in the first two games. Having not played the MMO I don't know how they handle the fluff, but I thought the point of the second game was that Revan was coming back to save everyone's butts and kick the Republic about for not doing its job?

Quite so - it's not much of a problem if you have a rich main who can transfer some credits to buy stuff in the auction house, fortunately.
Wyrmalla wrote:Wait, wasn't Revan the good guy (...or gal)?
I think she has just gone bonkers due to having spent too much time in the Emperor's captivity. If you play the newest flashpoint, Rakata Prime, you get a glimpse into this changed approach, where suddenly Revan accepts the Revanites as a cult army, as opposed to having ignored them until now.
In the end, it boils down to Revan believing in a subjectively better idea for the galaxy - and this idea just happens to necessitate dismantling both the Republic and the Empire. Needless to say, both the Republic and the Empire do not exactly like this idea, so they join forces against the greater threat.
I do agree that joining the Revanites faction will likely have a certain appeal for characters who believe that both the Republic and the Empire suck, but at the same time you shouldn't forget that we are talking about a guy who has no problem committing genocide just to remove any strain of Pureblood DNA from the face of the galaxy.
The Canon Revan (as seen in the book Revan) was also a very 'ends justify the means' kind of fellow to begin with. If you've read the book, just look at his blatant and highly questionable manipulation of the Mandelorians to ensure they don't become a threat to the Republic again. He's willing to break all the eggs to make the universes most perfect omelette.

That's an eggsellent metaphor.

Its KoA Kingdoms of Amalur? Or something else?
It is, indeed, Kingdoms of Amalur... the only 1P game I have ever played that had "fetch quests", which is a staple of XP-feeding in MMOs.
