Say I have a land speeder with heavy flame and multimelta. 3" in front of it is a unit of Tau fire warriors and 11" away is a devilfish. I select the devilfish as my target and fire both weapons at it. The multimelta is fine and dandy does its thing. The heavy flamer doesn't quite reach the decilfish, but covers 4-5 fire warriors. Is this a legal shot?

If a weapon is out of range, it cannot be fired. So you could fire the multi-melta at the devilfish, or fire both at the fire warriors.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

So it would have to touch the devilfish at least a little bit then in order to be fired. You don't just get to fire it and incidentally hit the fire warriors. Sounds good to me.

yup page 31 under check range has all the info

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Doesn't the template need to cover its primary target more than any other units?

It needs to cover as much as it possibly can of the target unit. If that means it just barely reaches the target, but passes over an intervening unit, then that qualifies.

One of the best things about template weapons, IMO.

My squad if burna boyz shooting at your tyranid warriors just happens to hit the venomthrope standing behind them a few times, too.

Oh well!
