I've seen a lot of people talking about deathwatch kill-teams and thought it was a cool idea. I was wondering if there were rules for using this in a game of 40k and if so where I would be able to find/purchase those rules.

Paint them as Deathwatch and use them as Sternguard in a regular SM army.

the closest thing to deathwatch is an apoc formation in warzone damnos, if I'm not mistaken.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

GW sell a dataslate with the rules. IIRC there are a few alternate, homebrew versions out there, and an older GW rulset that used to be free.

edit: Sorry, not enough coffee to post yet it seems. I was thinking about kill teams. I don’t think there are current rules. Counts-as sternguard is probably your best bet.

It's like building a list for Crimson Hunters 3rd Company, or Ultramarines 4th, or any other Chapter and specific Company. Get Space Marines, paint them the appropriate colors, add units and go from there. Make visual adjustments for certain things, like a fancy flamer for a Salamander in a Tactical Squad or as a Sternguard Heavy Flamer, an Imperial Fist with a Lascannon in a Devestator squad, a Raven Guard with Lightning Claws in an Assault or Vanguard Veteran squad. A Captain is a Watch Captain now and so on. Add in an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor in a separate detachment and you can build an entire Deathwatch army.

Unless there is something very recent, the only official legal rules for Deathwatch Kill-teams were back in 3rd edition, published in the Chapter Approved section of White Dwarf (and later the collected book of Chapter Approved articles)

This. Pretty much unusable now unfortunately. It'd be cool if GW released some sort of update though, but for now your best bet is Sternguard. Or, if you're trying to simulate the RPG, the Movie Marines rules.

Well, the WD team sure shows its age. its not unplayable, its downright self-inflicted pain.

The ones from damnos are nice, especially when fighting necrons (warriors and crypteks do NOT like the antiphasic rounds) but unfortunately its an Apoc formation.

Too bad there is yet to be an entry that fills the full scale of deathwatch, with apothecaries, black shields and such. a regular codex army just does not sit right, deathwatch as supposed to be above regular marines.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Take Pedro Kantor who gives all Sternguard units with the Imperial Fists chapter trait Objective Secured.

Play unbound army.

Take only Sternguard with the Imperial Fists chapter trait units painted as Deathwatch teams.

Profit?

You could take a couple of Vanguard squads as melee Deathwatch units.
