So how receptive is lego plastic to citadel paints n primers n glue?

I'm adding some geometry to one of my ork vehicles and i was wondering if my old lego bin would be of any use.

Preliminary tests show that they can be carved and sanded down with ease, but I would like to know before i go further if anyone has played around with them further.

As most here will tell you.
Try it out on a small peice first..

Although one should think it will be just fine..

LEGO is made from ABS plastic. Styrene glue won't attack it very well. And it will resist painting a bit. If you have any MEGABlocks or other cheap knockoffs, they are made from styrene and will work better.

For LEGO, lightly sand any surface that is going to painted. For glueing, use super glue, and scape/drill or sand any surface before gluing. Do this and you'll be fine.

I've painted lego with citadel paints. It works fine, just make sure you give it a light sanding first.

Not sure about citadel glue, but I've used LEGO bits here and there. Superglues of all types work fine. As for plastic solvent glues the ABS they are made of can be glued by certain glues. The glue should say if it works with ABS.

Plastruct "Plastic Weld" glue (the orange label, not white) will bond ABS and Styrene, probably because the main solvent is MEK, which is quite tough. It's my favorite solvent glue by far. a nice thin consistency and a brush applicator is the key to fast and accurate gluing.

As for painting, a light sanding is necessary if using acrylic primers. If using hardware/Krylon/Rustoleum/etc spray paints to prime, you don't have to sand as they'll stick just fine on their own.

Really? I used plastic glue on a piece recently and I can't get it off now...

Some plastic glues work, and some don't, but whey they do it's permanent. That's because unlike superglue which adheres two separate parts in a way that can usually be broken apart later, most plastic glues are actually a solvent which fuses/melts the two pieces of plastic into one.
