And after following JY2 and his shenanigans lately I threw some Wraiths in with my pair of CCB's for some added threat and it was great.

But it got me thinking, as wonderful as the CCB is, it is of course expensive. And having never used one I started thinking about using the Destroyer Lord instead and what the advantages would be.

Well straight off its cheaper, so I have to factor in how much better/worse it is including the fact that I could possibly squeeze

(275-190 for comparable stats, not worried about a lack of invuln as he'd be with wraiths both with Rez orb)

He buffs the wraiths of course with preferred enemy and he is T6 so there less chance he'll disappear because of a Vindicator blast or some such. I've also ended up tangling with the odd IK or DK or Dread etc that has the choice to hit the barge and kill it or choose to instadeath the character assuming I fail a save.

I also could perhaps squeeze a Doomscythe in there as I must say I can't really get enough Gauss into my lists or other armour piercing/glancing weapons into my list.

You do lose the speed, the sweeping attacks which most people avoid and the ability to just ignore small arms fire which is wonderful! I'd also lose access to a couple of Crypteks I believe. It should be noted I'd keep one CCB and mix it up with a Destroyer Lord as the second HQ.

Whats the thoughts?

The strength of wraithwing (6 wraiths + d lord) versus the CBB hinges on how much BLOS terrain there is on the board. If it's well populated with BLOS terrain the wraithwings can use that to their great advantage and outperform the CCB. I like to run a medium sized spyder farm to go with my wraithwing on a BLOS dense field. Scarabs really shine in that situation. In a clear field or relatively clear field its better to go full AV13 (e.g. 2 CCB, 2 GA, 3 NS, 3 AB).

For more armour piercing try StormTeks in NS.

Oh yes I intend to give the haywire voltaic staff a lot of love given half the chance, they are on my list of things to buy/convert.

Oh god, the voltaic staff. What was Games Workshop thinking?

Matt Ward: "Hey Phil, you made up some haywire thingy for Dark Eldar, didn't you?"
Phil Kelly: "Yeah, Matt, what about it?"
Matt Ward: "That just glances stuff a bunch, right?"
Phil Kelly: "Yeah..."
Matt Ward: "Alright, that sounds perfect. Thanks."

Matt Ward: "...Assault 4 Haywire..."

I almost feel bad when I use a stormtek. I have had a stormtek and 5 warriors pop out of a scythe and wreck leman russes without issue.
