Does anyone have any suggestions on best uses for the Sicaran Battle Tank? It seems to be a mean thing for taking out mid level transports and such, it could probably take care of one per turn but is that the best use for it?

It has armour 13 all around which makes it pretty survivable so is hugging cover a necessity for this tank?

Lastly, what about sponsons and upgrades? Are they worth it? Ceramite Plating seems pretty helpful but is it worth the points? THe sponsons are tempting but they also seem to confuse the purpose of the tank sending it into a strong anti tank or anti infantry vehicle.

Id be very interested to hear anyones experience using it. Ive watched some battle reports with it an it seemed to do well but it also seems like it can get a bit bloated in points when adding things, whereas the base base cost seems so points efficient.

Give it Schism of Mars, Ceremite and lascannon side sponsoons. 220pts

Now all of its shots are Tank Hunting, it has a 4+ against haywire and is immune to melta! Put it behind cover and it will become pretty durable. I proxied a couple of preds for two the other day - they are frikkin awsome!

On average this set up will down a serp a turn (without lascannons) even with its shields up.

They are also good against flyers, averaging 2 st7 tank hunting hits ignoring jink and 0.3 st9 tankhunting hits.

If you already have one with schism of mars, run any more barebones.

I use mine often. I do use ceramite but am thinking of getting away from this since so far no one but me uses heavy tanks so the rest of my meta is fairly melta free.

I always bring the lascannon sponsons and just hover around in the back shooting things up. Its a decent mid-sized tank. Most things you point at will be hurt by it.

I do not use any of the special rules things you can buy extra as all of my opponents are 40k players and they think my army is OP enough as it is.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Those special rules are designed for 40k not 30k, that's why they are relics. They took part in that battle 10,000 years ago.

The Sicaran is all around awesome. I believe it's armor is 13/12/12 now though. I think it's pretty awesome anyway you run it.

Barebones: 135
>>Like you said just go merc light armor with it (looking at you Wave Serprents!) I'd also be tempted buy Schism of Mars on a barebones Sicaran. Tank Hunter on the accelerator AC is sick!

HB Sponsons: 155
>>You now have a considerable dakka boat. It's also a fast tank, so you can move and still shoot everything. Like you say, it's a little confused now with S5 on something that wants to be shooting at light armor, but it's not really cost prohibitive and can add a lot of anti infantry punch.

LC Sponsons: 175
>>You now have a bonafide tank hunting machine. With 2 S9 AP2 shots and 6 TL S7 rending you can even threaten AV 14.

Decked Out: 220
LC sponsons, Ceramite Plating, Schism of Mars. As before, but immune to melta and with tank hunter. This thing should pretty much wreck a Serpent a turn (and come on, that's what you want it for right?) guaranteed. Probably the same for an Annibarge or other suitably annoying vehicle.

I use mine with HB sponsons to make it an incredible dakka wagon. .. the armoured ceramite is a good add if you think you may be facing Melta

Carcharodon Astra, by the Emporer it is willed.

You can move and shoot 2 weapons. It comes with a hull-mounted heavy bolter by default, so by buying the sponsons you basically turn it into a stationary Dakka platform (which is still pretty good). Pretty much any build you use will be pretty okay, and it's good against anything except MEQ, TEQ, and AV13+

Schism of Mars is a good upgrade, as is Battle of Sarosh (which will let it waste an enemy flyer on the turn it comes in).

You know, I can't think of anything better to have on top of a skyshield rather than 3 iron hand sicarans. Especially if there is a MotF with them with the ironstone.

Where would that change be? I only have the book of IA2 2nd ed and it lists the armour as 13/13/13. Is there and FAQ or errata?

Also, where could I find those upgrade rules (schisms, etc.)?

In ever report I've seen them in they seem to do really well so I'm glad to hear that's not the exception. At 135 they seem amazing but 220 feels so steep. You're almost in land raider territory at that point... Plus I'm building a force to ally with knights so I'm not sure I'd want to sink that many points into them. Though it's very tempting.

At the back of IA2 - Appendix II: Legacies of Glory.

Id still get schism even if nothing else. Tank hunter on 6 tl st7 ignores jink rending shots is incredible for a mere 25pts. It makes ot almost 100% more effective against av13+ and still 67%ish more effective against av12.
