Hey guys I'm planning on starting guard and I like the look of the Dkok but they cost to much for me so I'm planning in making my own regiment if Imperial guard guys with greatcoats. The toughest decision that I'm trying to figure out is which model to use. Bothe models are actually very cheap.

Imperial Borderers

Wargames factory shock troops

Pigs iron head

Thanks in advance!!!

I'm fairly certain the Pig Iron heads, cool as they are, won't fit on the Borderers, which are noticably more 'true scale'. Have you considered just using Pig Iron minis like the one in that example pic with the Greatcoat head? That looks pretty cool.

The detail on the Wargames Factory dudes looks like greasy poop. There's really no better way to describe them; they're pretty awful models. The Borderers aren't my favorite models, but they're better than the WGF ones and they're far rarer to see on the tabletop, so the army will be truly unique.

I actually quite like the look of the Wargames Factory ones.

The detail isn't great but, for the price, it seems reasonable - especially for use in a massed-infantry army like IG (you can always find more detailed models to use as commanders).

The thing is, for all the extra detail GW ones have, I think they still look ugly. For the most part, they resemble a race of angry-potatoes. And, even aside from the awful heads, Catachan models just look ugly to me. Also, Yarrick looks like a corpse (even by Imperium standards), Straken looks like something out of The Thing, and Creed appears to be suffering from a stroke. That or his face is melting.

So, I think it's fair to say the GW ones don't exactly endear themselves to me - even with their greater detail.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

I like the wargames factoy models. They are not super detailed so easy to paint but the detail there is decent and matches the imagery of 40k very well.

I mix in 40k parts. fantasy marauder heads (the greybeards) make for dynamic sarges.
Their flamers look good but the tips are flimsy. If I do any more, will add on 40k flamers. To give plasma/melta guns, just get the 5 packs ofthem and convert them in. This is what I did and the match is good.
I also dont really use the bits that come with them like holstered pistals and knives. I add on GW ones when I do. Overall, the end result of the GW weapons and bits on them look great.

The heavy weapons teams boxes are also good ad the twin linked rotary cannon comes with them looks really cool. Havnt found use for it yet but someone else went gaga over it and got one from me.

The thing I dont like is the officers that come with the heavy weapons teams. They are a little fiddly to put together but only cause of having to put the feet on. WTH were they thinking there?! BUT after getting the feet on, they were easy. again, mixing them with GW bits and guns worked like a charm.

Not to mention ya cant go wrong with the price. True, they are as good as FW models but as close as your gonna get for the price.

Didnt know that the Imperial borderers were closer to true scale. Hmm I like the model its just that the head is hideous for me at least. If anyone else has good greatcoat models that they like please show.
